Hi folks, bought a pair of headlights. They are good, not yellow, but have quite a bit of "sandblasting" on the lenses.
I was wondering if anybody had used a product such as: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mothers-Head ... 27bbb93581 or any other product to siccessfully reco the lenses. I would just like to get the sandblast effect off them. Cheers |

Cheers I used wet and dry sand paper, a lot of patience, a lot of hand polishing and it was better than the yellow stuff, but it will never be the same as it used to be new.

I use this method..

I don't know if I want to go that far, MAD, all I need to do is get rid of the sandblasting. I wonder how the headlights perform, for both the driver and other road users, without the lens "ribbing" to direct the light?

Yeah, you wouldn't need to do anything to the inside. The only reason I did is because I fitted projectors to my headlights and the disturbed the output.
I was just illustrating that the restoration technique, and coating, that I use is very clear. And two layers of it demonstrates that. The ribs on the lens don't really direct the light, they just smooth it out. Most of the focus is done by the reflector. Here's a shot with no lens on a EL headlight.

That looks really good. I have tried the Taiwanese headlights, and the beam projection is absolutely CRAP !! Never again. They claim to be ADR compliant, but I wonder who complied them!!

Hi guys I'm new on here, I've got an el fairmont and the headlights are hazy and a bit yellow. I used polish on them and they came up a bit better. I wanna put hid's in there, how much cursing is required to get them to fit/ looking like MAD's sweet looking setup?

I lost track of the time it took me to sand the insides clear, but I can honestly say that $1500 wouldn't even get me to do another set.
I have plans in place to form my own clear lenses for these, and other models, but time, money, and other projects are getting in the way. One day I'll get on to it. |

 how bad is it getting the projectors mounted permanently? What do u reckon the angel eyes hid kits look like? I like em on the beemers, what you guys reckon they'll look like on the fairmonts

Mounting the projectors wasn't that bad, still time consuming though. Trial fitting in between adjustments was necessary for me to get it 100% perfect.
I'm not a fan of angel eyes, but if you like em, go for it. |

It's a 50/50 mix of white spirits and urethane outdoor varnish.

I remember you sending me that link - the mix is listed in the first para or so.
So you used white spirits mixed with essentially a UV resistant outside gloss/varnish ??

It has to be an oil based outdoor varnish. |

It has to be an oil based outdoor varnish - std turps washup you mean ?? As opposed to acrylic.
