I hope I'm posting in the right place this time.
I live in the tiny town of Post ( founded by C. W. Post of Post Cereal fame ) in Texas and have a 1986 Ford Courier. I cannot get body parts for it here in the U.S.. I know.... It's just a Courier but I really love this little truck! I bought it from a used car dealer in 1989 and it was in perfect condition. It still looked new. He told me that the original owner was from Arizona. I think someone must have brought it back with them from overseas. When I bought the truck I soon discovered that, as far as Ford was concerned, my truck didn't exist. A Ford dealer told me to call Mazda. (I didn't know until then that it was made by Mazda) I did and they asked me to bring the truck in so they could see it. They had never seen one before but said it was very close to the Mazda B2000 with the exception of the front grill and headlights, the hood and the back, including the tail gate and tail lights. When one of the tail light lenses got broken in '97 I called everyone trying to find one, including Ford Motor Company in Michigan. They ran the vin number and had no record of it. They said the Courier hadn't been sold in this country since '81 or '82. I can't remember which he said. I couldn't get the truck inspected with that lens broken and it's illegal, at least in Texas, to repair it. But I did repair it (with super glue and red food color, lol) and so far, no one has noticed it. Mechanically, everything is a Mazda B2000. I had the engine overhauled about 10 years ago and am getting ready to have it done again. I love this little truck and would like to have some body work done too, but the trim around the headlights is almost all gone and I don't want to spend a bunch of money on body work and not be able to replace the trim around the headlights. Also, it's just a matter of time before someone notices the tail light lens during an inspection and then I'll have to mount those ugly trailer tail lights on the back bumper. YUK!! I read that the Courier is sold in Australia and New Zealand and have posted on other forums hoping to find the parts I need. Was the '86 sold in Australia? I have done a search on the Ferntree Gully site for the parts but don't have a reply yet. I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. Thanks for letting me vent. Any help is appreciated. |
