why did you use acrylic over 2pac, 2pac gives a much better finish.
and i say you might of used to much thinners to! you can mix it to your own liking unless you use hardener (which is only in 2pac). and when spraying the last coat always spray it alittle heavier then the others so you get a smooth finish, just watch for runs on the sharper edges.

I used Acrylic as it was suggested to be easier.
Plus apparently you need an oven booth or some s**t for 2pac.. Ive seen home jobs with Acrylic come out with brilliant shine. I will get their I suppose. Just a hurdle. |

i only spray in 2pac and i don't use a booth or oven. you use hardener instead of the booth or oven.
there is more work in acrylic then 2pac as if you spray 2pac right there is no buffing or sanding to do after you finish and you get a deeper shine then acrylic. but yeah you will get there in the end just rub it down with 1200 wet and give it one heavy coat but watch for runs.

{USERNAME} wrote: id say your mix is wrong 1.5 clear\1 thinners, you ran it dry due too to much thinners, the paint dried before it hit the panel, try some thinners only and wet it,it may melt the dry spray and flaten it,other wise wet sand with a lot of water,1500 grit and a block, the paints still wet and will take aweek to dry and longer, when its smooth and clean, recoat with 1-2 coats, as you will take a few coats off sanding the dry stuff, when you recoat, spray wet as possible, small runs can be sanded out.use a tac rag to remove over spray dust,do sides and doors 1st,then boot, bonnet, roof as they are half each side, spray boot and let it dry for half hour so over spray wont stick easily, you will see what i mean and will be glossy.
That's correct, if you're dusting the clear coat on you'll end up with that dull sandy feel to the paint. try and slow your passes over the surface so you'll leave a wet shiny finish on the pass.

Apon sanding, I realised there was a very thick layer of clear laid down. So I wet sanded starting with 1200 and finishing with 1500.
I then got the buffer out and used meguires medium cut and polish all round. I then applied meguires swirl remover, and then the showcar finishing wax and it has come up pretty damn good. The sides were especially nice, with the roof needing a bit more attention. But yeah, very happy with how it is coming out. Could be a little less "Dull" but I am sure with a bit more polishing it will come out. Cheers guys.. Will post a pic when I find my camera chord. |

Ok guys,
I ended up being so dissapointed with the first paint job, I painted it again haha!!! Anyhow, here it is.. Just needs a light sand, buff and polish in a few weeks when the clear settles. Im a lot happier with this effort rather than the first! I added a lot more thinners to the clear, and after I sprayed the clear there were a little bit of dry spots still (dont know how), but I tackled them with a slight spray of thinners, and Job Done !!!! |
