OK. Since you are looking here is a shopping list:
Try to find a Bosch or Valeo (French Manufacturer) Projector one with clear Lens. Obviously HID Xenon D2S bulb. Preferably a Philips D2S Specs: of Philips are: Lamp Power = 35W , Lamp Current = 0.45A, Base = P32D-2, Luminous Flux = 3200lm , Colour Temperature = 4100K And Hella LVQ-212 G3 Ballasts. You might need a bulb adapter if you choose a Valeo Projector. Alternatively, you may visit a wrecker and look for BMW 3 or 5 series. Honda has several models, Mazda has a couple or 2, Toyota has some, majority of other Europeans have them,…….so on. Try to find a set that already has everything needed so you don’t have to start looking for this that and the other. Good hunting. Have fun, mavs19

Yeah .. pretty much ... in a normal reflector headlight your beam won't be controlled the best though.
I am using my HIDs through a normal AU headlight ... but i am looking into retrofitting projectors into my headlight for the correct beam.

SIM wrote: So its possible to use a normal hid kit in standard reflecing headlights such az fairmont etc, but thu a projecter thingo you get alot better performace right? Do you mean to retrofit a Projector in the existing reflector in the original headlight assy, using an after market HID Xenon Kit (Bulb and Discharge) in the Projector?

The full kit cost me around the $500 mark ... included everything to install the entire setup.
I have had it in the car for about 5 months now.

I don't think Narva or Hella sell them as yet.
There are a few kits out there though ... there are GE and I think Phillips kits out there though. I am pretty sure JSM (the kit I have) are coming out using GE components as well .... but at a higher price though. If I get some time to have a search out there ... I'll see what are the better products out there (by using components). SIM ... I have been using mine for a little while now ... and they are great for brightness and clarity (don't get a colour temp of over 6000K though ... it's not as clear) ... but my beam pattern is not the best .. and there is beam leakage as well ... I get stray beams here and there (which can make it glary for other road users.) I am definitely going the way of the Projector for sure.

I got my hi/low kit from JSM for about $500 ... just gotta get the high beam section to work ... arrgggh ... just got no time to look at it.
Mavs is waiting patiently for me to put pics up of it working I put a pic up a few pages back with what my kit looked like. Not sure what MAVs has used in his kit ... or what brand he has ... I haven't asked actually.

SIM ... seeing as you are closer to MAVS19 than I am ... I am sure you can have a look at his kit ... if you are close enough.

I haven't asked actually. SIM: Listen carefully to Mechan1k, he is talking from experience. Before talking about makes, brands prices etc. READ all of this thread. All you are referring to has already been addressed. Also before choosing Manufacturer you need to find out details about your original reflector . Type and Size of the reflector. Type of bulb used in it and what is the Focal Point to that bulb. Then you need to find a kit that has a bulb as close to the set up of your headlight assy. Or you need to play around with your bulb until you find THE Perfect Focal Point. Otherwise you will have to live with a headlight assy without a proper beam assy, lots of glare, The International Salute from every oncoming driver, a lot of eye fatigue and lots of headache (both unwanted and real ones). Then and ONLY then you choose a Brand. As I said before it is all in this thread, start reading all of it and you are more than welcome to ask as many questions as you want after that. Just see no reason repeating it all over again. Just for the record: Philips and Osram are absolutely the best bulb. The only bulbs used by OEM. Bosch and Hella are amongst the best Discharge units. If you want REAL Day Light buy a Philips 4100K.which can create almost an exact colour spectrum of Daylight. Have fun, mavs19

Hee hee ... tell me about it. I have fiddled around trying to get the right beam pattern from my factory headlights ... and it hasn't been easy. I see from other vehicle with Projectors that the beam pattern is the best. I was following a new BMW M3 the other night .... and I could see his beam against the concrete barrier in the mddle of the freeway and on the road at night ... and it was perfect (a little low for my liking though) ... but no stray beam at all ... and a flat cut-off as well. I am not sure how the EF/EL Fairmont headlights cope with the HID kits ... i know someone is going to put them behind XR projectors though. SIM: Might be better if you can get an XR front on your car ... as the projectors will give you they right beam (hopefully ... depends on the internals of the XR projector lens though). I am waiting to see the results of a HID kit in an XR headlight .... and will try and get pics up here too.

Top of the range Xenon headlight assy from BMW has few extras that are very unique and special. i.e.
The Projectors are self levelling. Which is probably what you saw driving on the freeway. It keeps the beam on the same level in bumpy roads and with extra load. They have a cornering light that comes on when you slow down or stop to turn a sharp corner, i.e. to your driveway. They also turn 15 degrees when travelling on the road to either left or right in the curves giving an extra 60-200 metres of night vision. However, THE NEXT GENERATION headlight assys are even more fantastic. The adjust the intensity Hi/Medium/Lo) of the beam AUTOMASTICALLY. The onboard computer decides how much light you need when diriving on the road. i.e. Lo in town, Medium on a lite highway and Hi in the country. Both length and width and intensity of the beam is decided Automatically. Now that is something to scavenge the wreck yards for. Have fun, mavs19
