H.I.D. (High Intensity Discharge) Conversion Kits provide more than 300 percent the amount of light of a Halogen bulb. The clear white light produced by HID Conversion Kits is similar to daylight, reflecting road markings and signs better than conventional lighting.

The Xenon Bulb is a micro-discharge bulb filled with a mixture of noble gases including Xenon, and its life time of the bulb is equal to that of the car. The bulb has no filaments and the light arc is created by two electrodes, giving it a wider range of illumination. These Systems are modified for specific vehicle applications and fit directly into your existing headlights.
HID/xenon conversions can done to almost all vehicles. There are a few limitations which are the following. High/low bulbs (two filament bulbs such as H-4, 9007 will lose their ability for High beam. This is because the HID bulb is only a one beam bulb it can not function as a dual high/low beam. Only one or the other.
Installation of a kit could be done in less than 30 minutes or so.
The attached pictures shows the different colours and bulbs available.
Also remember that if you have a dual headlight i.e. XR, if you install a kit only that headlight will have a white/blue beam, the other will still be the standard yellowish colour, unless you change it to a Blue "Xenon/Halogen" bulb.

This information is old ... they have dual hi/low kits now ... I have a set in my car ... just gotta get the load across the circuit to switch it for me. When it is on highbeam it still covers the low-beam area too which is good

Well ... not if you have to pull the battery and airbox out like I had to ... it takes a little longer ... especially if you want to keep the wiring neat as well.

I know ... my 100W centre H1 highbeam Halogen globes are yellow/brown compared to my outer H4s ... and the highbeams are not brighter than my lowbeams either.

Can't really use the HIDs for the seperate H1s ... for 2 reasons ... they take a few seconds to warm up ... and they have a 2 second delay before turning off ... so if you flash someone ... they stay on for 2 seconds (too long if you want to flash someone ... and they don't warm up to full operating temp in time either).

May be a stupid question, but could you use these in spot lights? its a nice light for spot light shooting

Repco Auto Parts can sell the Narva kit, but chances of any store stocking them are next to none. They'd have to order it in.

You are correct, but that information is not old.
Even in the case of the Hi/Lo bulbs that you are referring to which you have installed in your vehicle the principal of how it works is the same.
And you should know that the ones you are referring to are called Bi-Xenon.
The problem with most Bi-Xenon bulbs are that not every manufacturer uses 2 Xenon bulbs in their kits, majority use a standard Halogen bulb with a blue tint for the Hi beam.
This picture should explain it better.

As to the timing, it all depends on how good and professional and well trained the person trying to install the kit is.
Probably most people will take more than 1.5 hours or so to do the installation.

The 2 seconds delay that you are referring to is the reason I suggested a "Xenon/Halogen" bulb.

does any one make H4 HID, with boat fillements in the globe H4 bieng HID. so it could be used on ef fairmont / fairlane lights

Cool ... yeah mine is the Bi-Xenon kit actually.
I'll see if i can dig up the box and instructions from it (think i chucked it though)

I find my H1 blue tint highbeams still look very yellow compared to the HIDs. Also I found the halogen beam to be less powerful than the HID too ... that's why i chose the Bi-Xenon kit.

I had mine installed by an auto electrician at his place (mate of mine) ... he had all the equipment there ... it was just a case of removing the battery and the airbox to get ample room to mount the ballasts neatly ... and also hide the wiring.

g'day cobbers

if the auto are the same as the industrial mercury vapour lighting (they sound very simmilar) flashing and dipping the lights will make the globe manufacturers very rich. think of the globes like your engine 80% of engine wear occours when they are warming up.
(70% of all statistics are made up but the theory's right.)

has anyone used higher wattage globes in the nc for high beams and are there heat issues.

I found using the higher wattage globe in the AU for the High beam insert it gets quite warm (kinda hot) on the outer lens)

Not sure what it is like on the older models.

Does the NC fairlane have projectors for the lowbeam??? I think they do don't they? Now they'd be a good candidate for HIDs (perfect beam pattern for them)

i tihnk u will find anything over 4000k illegal, i tried buying 6000k globes from repco and autobarn and autopro and they said no, they dont carry them and wont order them in as they are illegal!
