I know Autobarn will sell them to you, but there really really really expensive, there Philips brand.
Narva, who are Repco's main globe supplier don't make anything over 4K, but Orasm might, Repco wouldn't stock anything over 4K, and the sales person probably couldn't have been stuffed finding out if they can get em.
It's not the globes that are illegal, it's only illegal to use them on public roads. You can buy the globes that's perfectly legal, and you can use them on your own private property.

The headlights look similar to the EB ones, havn't had any trouble using higher wattage high beams in an EB. So should bea lrigh in NC if the lights are same/similar.

I Also purchased a kit some time ago and am yet to put them in - i bought a McCulloch kit on another forum and have been to lazy to put them in!

I have seen these on a US Mirage ... very nice indeed.
First I saw HIDs in a Mirage ... they guy took awesome photos to show the comparison ... the difference was amazing .. I'll try and dig up the thread and post it.

yeah i thought it was. It came with no wiring diagram so they are sending me one so in the next few days they will be in.

hey Mechan1k maybe thats why u have the extra box is cause of you Bi-xenon. oh well hopefully they are good.
i never use my high beams anyways :)

Yeah ... that is wy I have the high-low switch box in my system ... for the Xenon globe to switch over to the other electrode.

bugger aye
yeh i gotta wait for the wiring diagram before i hook them up :(
but it has 2 wires from the low beam that goes into the ballast then from the ballast goes just a + and - wire which im guessing plugs into the original socket
then off the high beam bit has 2 wires which i dunno where they go

i took a giess at the wiring and got it right :)

If memory serves me right (from Iron Chef), Xenon was invented in Japan.
It has mainly been used for Rally/Car Racing (which should explain the legality of On/Off-Road Use etc.).
There are few REAL Dual Hi/Lo Xenon bulbs in the market but remember you need to have the correct discharge unit to run them lights and they cost much more.
These bulbs can’t just be used with any HID Xenon kit .
There are few manufacturers in China and a couple in Korea, Taiwan which are at the cheap end of the market, like the ones sold on eBay.
Then there is the middle of the range kits that are sold by Navara, Hella, PIAA etc. These kits are a bit more expensive.
Then you have the OEM ones manufactured by same companies for BMW, Merc, Ferrari and many other makes and marks as a complete headlight assy. These are very expensive.
If you want a REAL DUAL Xenon Hi/Lo kit you are looking anything from $1500 and up.

There is, however, a BRAND NEW Bi-Xenon Hi/lo dual beam H4 kit which has just been released (which I am presently looking into) with a BRAND NEW technology which resolves all the earlier problems with all After Market HID (both Xenon and Bi-Xenon) systems out there.
This is what I believe to be the ultimate H4 HID headlamp conversion kit
Traditionally with a typical H4 conversion you are trying to replace a twin filament halogen lamp with a single arc discharge burner.
How does it work then?
The normal result is that you have to lose your Main or High beam function. The NEW kit is now offering a solution where you have both Low beam and High beam function in a single lamp.
The smart EMAS control system moves the arc by using electromagnetics to create a swift and accurate vertical movement of the light source. By using the very latest in electronics the arc is move to give you both functions in a simple single discharge burner!
This means that The burner doesn’t shut down during the switching operation and so there is no delay in lighting up which is typical to Xenon conversion kit when you change from Hi to lo or vice versa. The kit is also genuine Xenon not a setup of xenon/halogen combined as you may have seen.

As to Xenon Driving Light almost all manufacturers i.e. Hella, PIAA, Navara etc. do manufacture several different models of Xenon HID driving lights.

As to the question of Higher wattage:
There are 2 different type of wattage in a HID kit.
One is the Wattage of the Discharge Unit which is 35W on almost all the kits sold out there.
Then there is the “Wattageâ€￾ or Temperature of the bulb.
If my memory serves me right: up to approximately 5200K is sort of Yellowish, then blue, White and Purple (see my earlier picture).
The Blue Halogen Hi beam bulb used in most Bi-Xenon kits is around 5000K.
Thus the yellowish colouring.
By the way these bubls are Halogen bubls but filled with Xenon gas and some are only tinted blue to look like a Xenon filled bulb.


The temperature of the Xenon bulbs are much less than Halogen ones.
However, if you have one of the newer headlight units (i.e. BA) which is made of vacuum chromed plastic, you should be very careful not to use more than 6000K bulbs.

Oh, another thing, a 50W discharge unit has also been released recently, which makes the output wattage will be something like 550-600% stronger than Halogen.
But, unless you are in the Rally business, forget installing one on your car.

You will be stopped immediately by the friendly cups.

What differences will one find between the cheap kits and the middle market?

I'm only going for a H3 low beam set up in my ED XR.

The stability of the discharge unit and the longevity of the bulb is obviously very important.
When buying a kit look at where it has been manufactured (Even if you are buying Hella, Navara, PIAA, Bosch etc.).
You would be surprised that some of these brand names are also made in China, Taiwan, Korea etc.
The other very important and vital difference between cheap stuff and brand names could be warranty issues.
As you know the smaller businesses might not always be in a position or willing to honour their warranty/return policies.
So, if you are planning to keep your car for a long time, and money is no object go for the brand names.
If not, buy the cheaper, it is probably as good for the time you are using the car.
