Looking at installing a HID Kit soon and was wondering if anyone had instructions on best kit to buy as iv seen them from $40 TO $300 on ebay im chasing a hi/lo kit as im trying to fix the crappy low beam problem on the late e series btw its a EL

The Hi/Low kits will not suit your car if you have the GLi/Futura/XR front. Only the fairmont/fairlanes/LTD had the H4 low beam. For the ebay kits, I think that they are much of a muchness. All are pretty pathetic with standard lenses. I just tend to work out which ones are the cheapest (counting the postage plus the cost of the item) and tend to order those.

don't be a d**k and just get better quality halogen bulbs and clean your lens up...

Don't go for the arctic, or diamond, white type bulbs as they may look nicer but they are actually dimmer. And ensure your lenses are clean and not yellowing at all. If they are, then sand them back and polish them up with a headlight restoration kit. Unless of course you want to torture yourself and do what I did to my headlights... haha. |

While HIDs are brighter, i found on the EF/EL style headlights it didn't reflect the light correctly thus making them worse then standard light, tho they did look better but were just impracticable. and i heard story's of cops pulling drivers over with the conversion because of this reason, they dont reflect correctly and spread the beam evenly. so the poor drivers coming towards you on the other lane get half of the light in there eyes. IMO i would get some good 50% bulbs. or spend the big coin and do a focus beam like some people on here. but its up to you mate.

if you are looking at spending up to 300 dollars buy an hid projector upgrade and do what mad did with his lights. check out his headlight build thread . If you are not up to that sort of work forget HIDS altogether

Dunno if these come in your shape but they got a projector beam in them! So pumped, first BA/BF design to come with a projector reflector!

Isnt it all the same? Surely the projector would work better and capture the light than a normal halogen reflector? I am over stuffin around with my headlights so not going to try to make it work

In simple terms yes, they can work better, but they still don't perform anywhere near a projector specifically designed for a HID light source, and they still have too much glare. It greatly depends on what bulb they use, as some align better with a HID bulb than others. If you're after improved lighting, the only good way us to do a retrofit with an HID specific projector.
The BA lights I have done previously I have charged around $400 depending on options. You will never get a H4 HID kit to work properly. |

I posted the above from my phone so it's a pain to attach pictures.
Here's a couple showing a halogen projector with a HID kit, and a properly designed HID projector.   The extra glare I'm talking about when fitting HID kits to halogen projectors it the kick-up to the left. They are designed to put some light up there to illuminate signs and help see pedestrians, but when you add a HID kit with 2x and sometimes 3x the brightness, that becomes very blinding for other drivers. It doesn't particularly shine to oncoming drivers, except on bends and at intersections, but it will get the driver in front of you in their mirrors. |

lol mate i would be heaps happy if my hids spread like your halogen reflector. I had so many dramas with mine, so glad i have gone back to halogen now though
