you can put an hid kit in the halogen projectors from an el xr6 but quality and output will not be great due to the glare created by the lens. better than standard output but they expect around 10 to 20 percent failure rate and good luck getting an exchange if you have installed them yourself.

Does no one seem to care that they are illegal in all states of Australia?

jamie as BAXLS03 said they are illegal in all states of australia like quite a few ofthe mods you may find here on this site such as excessively large rims or narrow rubber band tyres but Hids seem to be a big annoyance because of the glare they cause when installed in lights that are not designed for them

if you want to install hid's you need to modify your lights to hold the proper projector I was talking to a cop I know and I qoute him saying "as long as the light is designd for them and produce a set beam pattern there would be no problem."

that said you would also need to get rid of the bumps in the lens of your headlight as they help focus the halogen light.

so it can be done it just takes a lot of time patiance and about twice as much $$

Take a look at MAD's HID retrofitting project.
It comes up looking awesome, but as said, it looks a lot of time and money... and HEAPS of sanding.

A HID projector retrofit in an XR6 low beam is quite easy actually.

Here's some comparo pics of stock vs retrofitted. (Both photos using the stock glass lens.)
Stock with HID kit.

With HID BiXenon projector retrofitted.
