Hi Guys,

Firstly, I have an EL Fairmont Ghia with a set of the Twinlight headlights installed. I had a set of HID's running in the low beam and a set of 100w hallogen in the high beam.

I've just gone ahead and purchased another set of HID for the high beam. I installed them today and now I am getting a weird effect. When I first go from low to high the hid high beam works fine, but when I turn them off again and leave them for 20-30 seconds and turn them back on they go to their full brightness and then immedialely dim down about 15%.

I've checked the relays next to the battery and they are all fine. I will be posting a link to a youtube video which shows what is happening to my car.

Any help you guys can offer I will be greatly appreciative.

The ballasts are not supposed to be turned on again after such a short period of time.
There is a startup procedure that the ballast runs through each time it is turned on to warm the bulb up quickly to operating conditions, and the procedure relies on tlhe bulb being basicaly stone cold.
When the bulb is warm/hot the amp draw is all different and will probably overload the ballast.

Try leaving them for longer before turning them on again and see what happens.

HIDs (at least those you buy in these cheaper kits) are not designed to be flashed on/off quickly. As such, it's ok to have them for low beam as they are generally constantly on, but not high beam; keep normal globes for them.

What bulb style does the twinlight run for low beam ??
The factory fairmont is H4.

The Twinlights use H1 for Low and H1 for High.

I was advised to upgrade to HID so I can have brighter lights at night as I do a lot of night driving and also remote country so high beam is important.

As we all know we have to dim high beam to low beam with oncoming traffic as well as make sure they are not on high beam when your behind someone.

As we tend to switch from low to high constantly at night, will these HID system handle the job or a complete waste of time and dollars.
