I have recently purchased a (EB) GT spoiler, and whilst I was preping it to get painted, I noticed the original colour was cobalt blue, it was fairly light and was made of plastic (i think).
What is the difference between the aftermarket and the genuine GT spoilers? Also does anyone know where I can buy the special clip screws that I will need to bolt it down to the boot? Thanks Adam

Pretty sure this is not fibreglass, not 100%
Is there a weight difference between the fibreglass ones and the originals? Were the originals made of plastic?

I have an original EB GT spoiler, the LED is a genuine ford one with the ford logo and part number id! lucky me! I'm not selling it, but as a matter of interest What would a genuine EB GT worth?

AWC install genuine ford parts/mounting brackets in their fibreglass kits
Not saying yours isn't a genuine one but I have no doubt any company would install a genuine ford led light for a rear spoiler. But good work with it . |

lol i reckon it just has a genuine ford light in it. Geniune ford should have a part number, ford logo also look out for a "ABS" symbol. then you will know if its plastic

Sorry guys I got a little excited in my post!
I spoke to Ford Service and Parts in Geelong and they told me that the GT spoiler never came with a specific part number! I think the guy was talking s**t so he could get me out the door, seen as I rocked up 5mins before close! Many of the fibreglass GT spoiler extend the whole boot length, but the original GT spoiler does not. Ok thanks for your help guys, I will go over it with a fine tooth comb and let you know how it goes.

Hi All,
I really should look at the forums more often..... I've got two EB GT wings here..... The first is a genuine, bonafide EB GT Wing (Original Box, painted in primer, untouched...) The second is a very recent copy made using the original Ford tooling. Both Rear Wings are made of Fibreglass. Both have the cut-outs for the rear LED lamp. The EB GT Wing DOES have a specific part number. The rear LED lamp was made in New Zealand by Hella for Ford. I'm sure that it would/could probably fit a number spoilers. I'm happy to take both spoilers out and photograph them - but only if anyone is interested? Will

The LED lamp is the same as mine, i am quite sure that the GT spoiler had a specific part number on it, but I am not sure if it is displayed on the spoiler. If it is can you tell me where to look to see if its real or fake.
Thats would be great, I will post pics of mine and put them up in the next few days. Thanks Adam

Hi All,
I took out both GT Wings on the weekend... First of all, I have reason to believe a number of different bodykit components were made by the same company (or, at least, the front spoiler and the rear wing were made by the same company). I've come to this conclusion from the hand-written labels that appear on the bubble wrap that was supplied with the front spoiler and the rear wing. Both labels are in the exact same hand writing, on two different parts, made from two different materials. They were purchased by me, from two different sources at different times. My guess is that the parts were made by the various companies, wrapped in bubble wrap with hand written labels, transported to Ford, and then (for the parts that were) placed in boxes. Considering the small production run, it can be seen how/why many of these genuine parts were produced without part numbers being moulded into them etc. Having taken a closer look at the underside of the genuine (primer painted) spoiler, I noticed that there is a hand-written engraving that reads "DCC 70" on what would be the passenger side base/leg, near the small recess that has the two small bolt holes. If your spoiler has been painted all over, then odds are, you wouldn't be able to read it (if it is there). This is as far as markings on the spoiler goes. This is definately made from fibreglass! Even the workshop manual states it is made from fibreglass. If its not fibreglass, its not genuine. There might be another way to tell if its genuine or not.... Look at the close-up pic of the nuts that are used in the spoiler. The "new" spoiler that I had made (using the original tooling) does not use this type of nut. I'm told that a more secure nut was used in place of the original. I'm not sure how the numerous aftermarket copies of the EB GT spoiler are made, but this might be a point of interest. Also, the genuine spoiler has two two holes drilled in the underside, near where the stop lamp is installed. This is factory drilled. These holes are not for the lamp itself, but for the lamp's mounting bracket. Once again, I'm not too sure, but I doubt that the aftermarket would be using a seperate bracket to secure the lamp. There's a multitude of LED lamps out there. It would be easier for the aftermarket to utilise a lamp that has its own bracket moulded as part of the lamp. Would you be able to post a pic of the nuts used on your spoiler and/or of the LED lamp cut-out? Also, I've noticed that the sanding on the edges between the upper and lower surfaces of the spoiler are flawless! No high or low spots - perfect curves. Brand new from Ford (just a few months before going obsolete) I was quoted $1016 for a spoiler (no lamp or bracket - I think). I paid not far off that sum for this genuine spoiler, lamp and bracket. The exact copy was $395. Any person could get a simple 'knock-off' that looks very similar, if not identical (externally) for only a few hundred dollars! I don't think that its a matter of "what its worth," but more of "what is someone willing to pay for it?" I was willing to pay that much for a genuine EB GT spoiler - simply because I'm an EB GT nut - plain and simple. Any questions or further pics? Just let me know Will.

Most aftermarket spoilers would probably have a colour in the resin too..
Find a inconspicuous (where you mount it?) spot and scratch it, see what the colour is underneath. Should tell you whether its genuine or not, by narrowing down to the uncoloured resin etc
