Hey guys. I just bought some 18" BA XR8 mags for the Ghia and they need a bit of a tidy up. I'm wondering what is the best way to sand them back in preparation for a fresh paint job. The search function failed me. Thanks for your help!

im doing mine at the moment mine are powder coated so i have to start with a grinder
but you should only need to start with 500 grit then work your way up too 2000 grit before buffing and polishing your fingers are inn for a good work out trust me on that

eeeek grinder on alloy's, paint stripper maybe.... atleast be gentle.
They'll be clear anodized, how bad are they, are they just crazing or a bit of gutter lovinn a form of pneumatic, or electric sander will make it much much easier if gutter lovin the case but otherwise if just as above, block it back a little, and should be right for coat.

Than guys, but a bit late, lol. My uncle (BOS XR8) and Istarted working on these last week. But mostly my uncle LOL. They had some real gutter loving, so the grinder had to be used on all of them. Firstly though, the clear was removed with the hand sander. Then with different grades (80-1200) on the face. He painted the insides of the spokes black and machined the face with this awesome drill bit. Then some clear to finish them off.
How they turned out, remember, these wheels were gutter rashes to oblivion! Just need tyres now. |

Get a polishing wheel and some cutting compound/polishing compound and you will get a great polish, more effort you put in the better the job. When finished apply a good clearcoat, preferebly a 2pack clear.
