Does anybody else hate these damn things as much as I do? Useless pieces of plastic s**t, my car seems to be loaded with ones that are stuffed! You know the ones, the head of them is f**k, the screwdriver won't turn in them because the driver slots have been worn away leaving a useless hole on the top of the screw. Ford should be shot for using these crappy cheapo things.

Anyway, point is, what's the easiest way to get out the f**k ones without breaking everything in the vicinity? I've tried levering a flathead under it while unscrewing and that worked on a few of them, but there's a couple of others that are refusing to budge.

That makes 2 of us :)

I had a few on my car which in a pretty bad way, the screw slots have worn out, and had been pushed up so hard that the round edge is now under the outer part, bloody stupid things alright, why they couldnt just use little push in button type things which are easier to come out is beyond me. I usually just use the small thin bladed flathead screwdriver under the screw and when i get enough under it just keep pushing it up as most of the time when i try unscrewing it, it doesnt even move. Other times i just get a pair of side cutters under the head of the scrivet and rip the bastards out  then replace them with something easier

on the topic of stupid f**k things ford use to hold their cars together, the metal screw with a spherical head and no indentations used to hold in the ECU on an AUII WTF. Such a f**k s**t idea, wasted like an hour removing just one f**k screw.

Lol got any pics of this stupid screw? Sounds like it would be a mission tryning to take it out, but no match for an angle grinder though

That's because you're not supposed to remove the ECU. B series ECU's are the same.

It's a tamper proof screw, when they go in they have a 'head' on them, that snaps off when torqued up tight.

You'll find the ignition key barrel is attached to the steering column the same way.

As for scrivets, easiest way to remove stubborn ones, is to cut the head off. Buy new ones (they're pretty cheap from auto stores etc.)

Nah no pics, camera was stolen when i traveled around europe. I didn't have access to an angle grinder unfortunately, just the handy old drill. I broke a drill bit, cut myself and scratched up the bodywork around the screw in the process of removing it.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I was trying to take off the front bumper today and came across about half a dozen of the things that were completely rooted. Yelling abuse at them didn't seem to shift them either. I think I'll just hack them all out tomorrow, trying to get them out in one piece just didn't work for me!

yea i hate the stupid things, best thing i did with them is pull them out with a hammer... yes sounds a bit over the top, guess a flat head screw driver would work too, got in behind it and ripped the f*ck*r out! put in some screws to replace them much easier :p

I remove them by not trying to screw them out but prying them up using two small screwdrivers.
