Some good answers here but I think in theroy an exhaust tip can change the sound but not to the degree that is required.
I have done this on a Honda pump when the guts fell out and if you oval it it dose chang the pitch and the old bikers used different tail pipes to get differnt sounds. Just look at the Harley drivables all have different lengths and shapes all different sounds (all sound like crap without mufflers) but there is a differance.
