At about 6pm yesterday, my xh ute was
Parked out the front of my place on the street, it got side swiped
By a drunk driver and this is the damage

I'll take better photo when the sun is up..

So the question remains, can this be repaired or should I start looking for another car

Easily repairable but insurance company will probably write it off as being economically unfeasable to repair .

You have a couple of issues mate,

1) Drunk Driver = no insurance.
2) If you claim = write off

Good thing is that if the ute is a good vehicle it is easily repaired, if you can get a door.

definatly a write off... parts are no longer available new and hard to find used,
insurnce companies write off newer cars with less damage..

Total loss in the insurers eyes. Is it agreed value or market value insured? If its insured for the right amount I think I may be able to put you onto an AU 5 speed V8 ute. If the current owner is ready to part with it that is.

if they are drunk the insurance is not going to cover him, he either has to pay up from his own wallet or you need to claim from your insurance company, unfortunatly he probably wouldnt have a cent to his name and will pay you off at $3 a week from the dole :|

I don't think there is a question of "IF" it's a write off, it most certainly is due to lazyness of insurance & repairers, they just don't want to repair older car's like this, as new parts are not available easy if at all, and second hand takes what they consider too much work to acquire, which is a crying shame, because it really doesn't look that bad.

In regards to insurance, your insurance will cover you & chase the drunk for the money, if the other party was insured I'd be thinking they should have a liability to cover the damage to your car & not the other drivers due to being drunk...

Trouble I have had with insurance in the past, if you have agreed value with YOUR insurance, the other party's insurance doesn't give a damn & will give you only what they determine as "market value", so it pays to go thru your insurance anyway, hell, it can't be your fault the d***head was drunk & hit your parked car, unless it's found you were not legally parked.

Good luck with your claim, make sure you get some independent quotes, and you makes sure you don't get screwed by the insurance. Hell, it might be worth buying it back & then paying to have it repaired yourself from the claim payout.

Cheers

ToranaGuy

Can't do that, once they write it off it is finished, end of car, scrap or wreckers only. You can buy it back and use it for parts but not rego it in NSW.

Well doesn't look to be structural damage so if write off is going to be bought back and possibly turn into long term strip car project
