ok so i just spent the last few days stripping the ute and sanding it, i have never painted a car before but thought i'd have a go............... i ended up getting a monza red acrylic for it. so yesterday i started painting and today i have about 3 or 4 coats on it, its look pretty i guess
what i need to know is now what do i have to do, i think i'm supposed to sand it now with 600 grit, is this right??? i havent done the clear yet either. |

Is monza a metallic paint?
Don't sand down metallic paints, you will ruin it. Clear coat first then lightly sand down with 2000grit before cutting and polishing. It it isn't metallic then you can lightly sand it down with 2000, no need to clear coat non-metallics.

1200 minimum wet and dry and plenty of water. Watch the edges as they will sand through easily.

all above is correct, but please man, use a lot of water, and wash of as you go. the finer the better, 1200 is ok.
Ive painted a few of my cars, and they come up ok, good from a far, but far from good! Well done on having a go You can use clear i guess, but you shouldnt need to after its time to cut and polish |

If you start with 1200 then go over it again with 2000, it will be easier to cut it later. I used motospray cutting compound. Buy a new pad.
