Yeah the little metal key guide in the drivers side door lock has popped out. i got a few photos to show what i'm on about.
my question is, can i repair that in anyway, or is this being popped out a hazard??? Do i have to replace the whole handle or what??

yeh id still want to put ti back in both coz it looks s**t with out it, and it would probably look an easier target for someone trying to break in.

Yeah my drivers side has fallen to this affliction. Damn keyfob doesnt work so i spose the excessive use of the key in the door was a little too much for it.

I had the same problem on my EA. First time it happened I replaced the lock barrel. When the other side did the same I repaired it.
You need to remove the outside door handle, then the lock barrel. Once out you should be able to get the cover back in place. It sits under a circlular ring on the outside edge of the lock.

Yeah it does look ugly. And intercepter, it happened approx 2 weeks ago. The car was next to the road when i first noticed it, the head unit was in it so thought someone was trying to go after that (dunno why someone would want a $167 head unit), but found that metal piece on driveway. Am a tad paranoid that someone will see it and target the car as it looks real easy to get into now

Take the lock barrell to a locksmith and they will be able to replace the flap and spring and the white circular plastic part as a kit. The white part perishes and the flap falls out. All three barrells cost me $50.

Mine did that 8 years ago. I really should get around to fixing it.

I had the same scenario when I bought my wagon - this instance it was the tailgate lock cylinder. Since I had to replace a reversing light globe, I removed the lock cylinder and the link to the latch while everything was apart - I cut up a touch up paint can cap (the cap colour's same as the car colour, which in Futura wagons is the colour of the No plate surround) and glued the disc in the back as a blank - sounds bodgy, but it surprisingly looks good, colours match great too. It does though mean I can only unlock/lock the tailgate by remote, and may be an issue at rego time - I stored the lock cyl and latch, so I can always put it back.
I like the idea of having as least key lock points as practicable - the wagon has only one now - unfortunately I can't do same to the ute, as the lock cylinders fit in the door skin. EF owners might want to remove the passenger side handle and lock cylinder, and fit an EL passenger side latch assy (respray to colour match), and put the better lock cyl in the drivers side and store the remaining lock cylinder. EA-D owners might optionally remove the passenger side lock and make a blank possibly - unfortunately in all models, I think a rear latch is too short to fit correctly. Replacing/repairing the damaged lock is obviously the easiest/less involved way of solving the problem - but what I've suggested may appeal to some perhaps . . . . . .

Yeah I bought my EL without it being in, which was like 5 years ago so I havent bothered trying to fix it as it seems like a design fault and would most likely pop back out again after a while
