Right its pretty self explanatory but what are the procedures involved with getting a key for the car. The only key we had has been lost.

1. Is it just a matter of going up to ford and asking for a replacement?
2. How much lighter will the wallet be???

depending on what car it is, you should be able to ring a locksmith to come out and make you another key

break into the car (or call RAC/NRMA whoever out to do if for u. if u had the same key for all locks before remove the drivers door trim, the exterior door handle, and then take the lock barrel out of that door to a locksmith and tell them u want a key cut to suit it. then take the new key home, put the car back together and your done :)

precisely why u take it apart yourself. the locksmith here charges around $45 to cut a tibbe key to match a lock barrel. most of the $200 would abeen in the callout fee, and in the dissassembling the car i would expect...

Pull the lock apart and read the tumbler code though the side of the barrel. Go to the locksmith and tell them the code, should cost $15 or something (plus the cost of a key)

Read here of how to read the tumbler code, or let me know and ill post up the section from the Ford manual.

There is an Ebay seller that has the tibbe lock key blanks for around $10 IIRC, and if you give him the codes (you might need to give a VIN No too or whatever), he'll cut the key also - think it costs another $15 or so to do.

Correct me if i'm wrong but if you go to Ford and give them your VIN they'll be able to give you the code for the barrell. Then take the code to the locksmith and get a key cut.

Yeah but if you car is like mine it dont have the original locks. I needed a 2nd key and it was going to cost me about $25 from a lock smith but i got a full set from work with 2 keys for $15. $10 yeah big woop but it was enjoyable to work on the car at the time. LOL

I really thing try the ford dealer first Just ring them up for a price. I don't think it will be more than $60-70 and you save a huge load of stuffing around. I had a key cut by a locksmith recently as I only had 1 and it cost me $30 supplied and cut.

I just gave our local ford dealer a call and the info that was given to me was:

They supply the blank Key ($17)
And you have to take the car (Funny HAHA) to the lockmiths so he can cut it...
