Hey there people,
thought i would do the right thing and ask the people who know for advice. My friend (runs a panel shop) just purchased an 05 BA ute to tidy up as a work ute - part of the process what lowering it. Obviously the ute having different rear suspension to the sedan. He claims the process was simple all they bought was springs (pedders) and fitted them. When i lowered my EL Fairmont i bought springs/shocks, castor camber kit to ensure the job was done correctly. I just wanted a second opion as such. With my budget of course I would like to not have to spend loads of cash but I would like my BA to sit nice. Is it as simple as buying springs and fitting them. Doeas anyone have any advice. What items should i look at buying, costs etc. Please bear in mind i would like to make this cost effective. Thanks people. Ewan - ewanj@westnet.com.au |

well i've been told the stock shocks can take it down to about 60ish mm lower than stock. depending on how far you wanna go you can get away with it.
don't let people tell you the car will handle bad with just the spring change because my mate has an XR6 ute scraping and it is the best handling car i've been in...in my limited experience. i'm lowering my XT 30mm soon just springs and in the future when i have more money i will replace the shocks with better rated shocks for the height. i was wondering the same thing. i have just bought some lovels superlows and that should drop it 50-60mm so maybe the original shocks will be ok coz i just got a quote on lower shocks and it was around $550 and thats not quite what i was bargaining for.

Mine was dropped, around 30/40mm, with stock shocks, king springs ( not sure which ones) ride is nice, not rough at all.

Stock shocks will be fine.. if your looking to go 60mm lower than standard...
The ride will be alot stiffer but alot more comfortable.. I do recomend a castor/camber kit for the front if u are using SL's if u do a lot of driving.. My current suspension setup of pedders AU2 SSL's in the front and reset kings SL's in the rear has bought the car down 70mm from standard in the front and 105mm from standard in the rear and my stock struts and shocks are fine (springs have been in the car for over 30,000kms) I highly reccommend for a BA the following setup.. - Kings SL in the front KFFL-57SL - Kings SSL in the rear KFRL-68SSL - a camber/castor kit for the front This setup will allow the sills to sit level and provide a tidy looking firmer ride (i just went to the extreme to tuck the 20's in) Springs should not cost you more than $250 supplied but the camber kit will be approx $275 supplied Hope this helps and Good Luck

my last workplace had 2 BA's that we lowered with pedders stuff (around 2 inches) and put 19" rims on.. cornered way better then XR's and the ride wasnt too bad even with 5 ppl in the car. Hardly ever bottomed out either (still less then an XR) so i'd definatly reccomend Pedders stuff

thanks to everyone who provided some advice and suggestions. Im wondering what ssl 7 sl (king springs) the difference is. Im not to sure which springs to go for, i would like to the car to have that lowered look, but not handle badly and scrape evrywhere. I wouildnt like to spend $$ and not have the car look any different.
Ok thanks for your help. |
