Heyyyy....
Thought i would start a thread on my Rear Door Conversion....... I think the barn doors are gayer than a mexican table-cloth. So with a bit of luck i will have a single door, that will look factory, but only better...lol. Bloody solidly built doors. Took a bit of hacking to get some of the unwanted ribs out, but all in all, it should come up pretty good. At the start i thought that, yet again, i may have bitten off more than i can chew, but now i am pretty happy. Anyway, enuff jibbering. On to the pics..... My panel parts door... Put a couple of temporary tabs to hold it together. These will be removed after i have finished the reinforcing. I had to remove the door hinge mounts to make some room for the new door lock (which i have to get, so if anyone has a roo7ed door that i can cut the lock mount out, i'd appreciate it) I think i will finish this bit off while the outer skin is off. Will make the connection and operation of the locking mechanisms easily positioned and finalised. Here is the first transplanted door folding....too easy!! Top section trial fit. Just have to trim the top section. Finished welded Should come up nice with a bit of a grind and sand. Here is the new panel section. Should look pretty schmicko once in place and the the number plate recess is done. Smooth look and no handles or locks on the outer panel......sweet..... All this in 2 afternoons after work..... Cheers Daz

Looks good Daz.
What are you going to do about the piss weak hinges in the rear doors? Mine snapped the pin through the middle with a 35" tyre hanging off it much less the weight of another door. Very interesting to see how it comes out. Must make it somewhat easier to build stuff when you ahve a garage to work in instead of a carport , it is your trade , you have all the gear and you know what your doing!!! I have a little CIG mig , a 4" grinder and a lot of trial , error and guess work. I am really good with electricity but!

{USERNAME} wrote: yeeeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa go the Mav mods me you and evil gonna have to vote for a Ford Mav section Yeah, that'd be good, but i doubt it will happen. Matt, after i stripped the small door of the unwanted s**t, it is actually lighter than original. As i dont have a dirty gr8 big wheel hanging off the back i cant seeing it being a problem. All else fails, it will be 4140 pins FTW!!! Yeah it is easy when you know what your doing, and have the gear, and a good place to work. I had a thought about the rear window, and i think an MQ or MK 'trol should do the trick, the one that has the lift up top tailgate.... Thanks Ash, for your kind words. Cheers Mav Modder Daz

Rightyo....
Door is just about finished. I have fitted the falcon lock. Had to use a different handle on the inside, but it'll look ok, but more importantly, functional.. My boss gave me a solenoid for the door release, but i dont think it has enough grunt to work against the spring on the handle. I forgot the camera this morning, so i will get a couple pics tomorrow. Cheers Daz

Hey there.......
Change of plans for my rear door. I think the solenoid would be more trouble than it would be worth. Decided on using an external handle, only it will be hidden. Came close to hurling door in the scrap bin. Sat, had a think, and luckily it might not look to bad. Will most likely not be able to fit the 6X9 speakers i have atm, so i will maybe space them out, or just go for some decent 6" round ones. Dont have the stereo up that loud anyway, so dont need massive speakers. The handle will be covered by a folded section with a cutout to access the handle itself. Should look ok when done. Just have to finalise number plate light, then i can finish the recess off, and weld it in to the main panel. Jaycar lock/unlock solenoid is mounted behind the recess, forgot to get a pic. Not much to see anyway. Slowly, but surely getting there. Cheers Daz

Hey,
Getting there....... Got my led plate light, so will try and get that sorted and mounted tomorrow. Just have to finished off the edges and a bit of bog and she'll be ready for paint....... Though, i may mod the corners to get rid of the tight turn and fab in some curves. Will make a template up and see how it looks.... Cheers Daz

Hi Daz,
Thanks mate... Unlike the other ones I found these don't say anything about being ADR compliant? Do you know if they are or are you just gonna risk it that the slight chance it may get knocked back come rego time? Not there is much chance of it happening... But just curious... Cheers, Tim

Oh ok then thats good... So you just need one for ADR? Another type I've found says you need two for ADR, and a different one again says you need one of theirs...
I look forward to seeing photos anyway... Cheers, Tim

I might get another one and re-do my boxy when i get around to doing the LED brake/tail/indicator lights swap...... So much to do, so little time.....................................
