as MRE-50L said, you can get a flattening agent for clear coat.
all the benefits of a clear coat with the look of matte. but a lot of the expensive cars that are matte black have been wrapped, rather then wrecking an already perfect paintjob. when trends change, vinyl off and car is gloss red or what ever it came as. otherwise you can get matte paints, just spray em on and done. but they tend to mark easy, don't last, fade etc. my wagon is done the cheap way

BTW how do they make it matt black? is that like some vinyl that they just heat shrink on the car or something? a lot of the more exotic cars are vinyl wrapped now. its not really heat shrunk, but heat is used to give it pull/stretch where needed. I see...learn something new everyday. When I was spraying the fairings on my bike. I just used matte black from a spray can...worked out just fine haha

there was a laser round years ago shot ,murdered what ever you want to call it sounded like a plane
first time i ever heard a blow off valve. i would love to have an e series done ,fill in all the gaps ,do some deleting and smooth all parts suicide rear doors put some crate engine in it and use real wood accents in the interior and drive it on the weekend alas the missus hates the idea |

It also comes down to the quality of the paint. someone i know painted their turbo starlet matte black, and it faded fairly quickly. my wagon seems to be standing up to the weather pretty good, but the paint marks easy.

{USERNAME} wrote: Its just the paint you buy. Can get something called GMH black or RFU black which are an under body paint. They are very runny paint and dont need thinners to sprayand you can get 4L of that stuff for $20 which is plenty to paint a car. Another option is you can get something like Protect 10% gloss black which is a normal automotive arcylic paint so it will need thinners. 4L liters of that is around $100 but prices will depend on the brand of the paint and the shop you get it from. According to the shop I spoke to with the 10% gloss stuff you can polish it once it completely cured and make it a bit shinnier or leave it with the matt finish and it doesnt need a clear coat but the other stuff you cant realy polish unless you clear coat it which would then change its appearence. Also the shop couldnt comment on how the GMH/ RFU black would last being used as the primary paint but did say if it did fade or go blotchy after a while its not expensive to just repaint the car Theres even pictures in that link of a car getting wrapped. Of course you can get matte paint, but thats not how the majority of decent cars are done. |

Yeah I figured it might not be great for everyday thing...but my bike doesn't seen the light of day much and even if it did, I would have probably crashed it so paint was the least of my worries haha. I know what you mean by it easily marked...even a scratch from your nails is a nuisance. EDIT: This may be a stupid question...but would that mean you can actually peel the vinyl off again once you get sick of the matte look?

Well I guess that is a pretty cheap option if you change your mind later down the track, assuming cost is not ridiculously high.

matt paint is crap! the only good thing is its easy to blend and touch up.......yes it marks easy, yes it fades easy and its s**t to keep clean! ......BUT! you can now buy a 2K clear matt finish! i havent tried it yet but apparently its supposed to stop all that s**t.

Yeh it's a state thing. Pretty big in the euro scene too. Old e30 bmw's look the bussiness murdered out. And also I'd like to add that I too am not even close to a fan of matt black murdered cars. Not even the royce. Makes ur car look like a chalk board. Polished is the only way to go imo.
