I think here in NSW (might vary down south) It is 10% of circumference... I think i heard this somewhere...

Basically you can generally safely go 2 inches over whatever is written on your tyre placard inside the driver door without too much drama... If the biggest thing there is 16 then yeah 18 wouldn't be an issue...

I'm fairly certain that your legal with rims up to 2in larger diameter than standard fittment. As the EF was optioned with 16in rims then 18's are perfectly legal your only worry is rim width which is allowed to be 1in wider than stock. Check the tyre, wheel fittment sticker on your car for stock sizes but fairly safe to say 18/8 is perfectly legal. If memory serves me right the option was a 16/7in rim fittment.
hope this helps. Glen

Nice research there...

so in vic basically any size rim you want as long as its not more than one inch wider and overall diameter of the tyre doesn't increase by more than 15mm (would be to ensure speedo stays sort of correct)... So as long as you go down profile sizes as you go up rims sizes and stay at no more than 8inches wide your right...

You wouldn't know where to find a doco like that for NSW would you KD?

Cheers,
Tim

Yep, but its basically the same for NSW.

NSW

Vic

QLD

SA

WA
"In Western Australia rims can’t exceed the manufacturer’s specifications by more than 25mm, or one inch. Overall wheel rim width can’t exceed 177.8mm (seven inches) unless specified by the manufacturer, and cars that are equipped with 177.8mm rims can’t have higher width rims fitted at all.

As with most other jurisdictions, the wheel must be contained within the bodywork of the car, including wheel arch flares.

Rim diameters can’t exceed those specified by the manufacturer, although “plus one” and “plus two” wheels and tyres are allowed so long as the overall diameter of the large rims and fitted low profile tyres don’t exceed the manufacturer’s diameter specification.

The maximum allowed increase in track over the manufacturers’ specifications is one inch, or 25mm."

I miss read the bit on tyre diamater, I thought it was 15mm on rim or wheel diamater. This opens you up to combinations of up to 20in rims.

simple update ya rims and goto local ford and get a new tyre placard :P

Honestly if you get picked on for 18's you may be doing something worng. i see plenty of cars running 18s 19s and a handfull running 20s i think 18 is the biggest size ya need.

Nothing, if you read what I linked to you'd see they're fine.

this is from that nsw rta link..
Minor changes to wheels..
Wheels up to 26mm wider than the largest optional wheel recommended by the vehicle manufacturer for the
vehicle can be fitted without the need to notify the RTA.
The outside diameter of the wheel and tyre combination must be no more than 15mm over the largest diameter
wheel and tyre combination specified for the vehicle and not more than 15mm below the smallest diameter wheel
and tyre combination specified for the vehicle.

there for technically you could go with 18" 19"wheels aslong as the overall rolling diamiter does not exeed 15mm larger or smaller than factory..
