Hi all

I am working my way through my ED wagon and have a newish problem I didn't think of. The car needed 3 door lock solenoids replacing which I accomplished today. However, the outside front door locks will only lock, they will not unlock. The hatch lock solenoid died too but I replaced that and the lock works fine.

Has anyone come across this before? Is my actual door mech cactus or has something just gone ary, I suspect that when the door solenoids went they fully extended which may have done something. I think the locks themselves are fine, it is just what they connect to.

If I *do* have to replace the actual door mechs, how difficult is it? I have a spare EB II and 2 spare EA's that I could steal some from.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers
RD

Hi RD

Does the key turn in the lock to unlock it?

If not I suspect that different door locks are in the car compared to the ignition key. It isn't too difficult to swap in matching door and ignition barrell locks.

Hi Ben

I was just out there today doing more work and decided to disconnect the key lock from everything else and test. With just the lock itself, the key will not unlock. The actual lock itself looks pretty clean and new so I suspect you are 100% correct and the door locks (maybe doors?) have been replaced.

I will first try swapping my EA II ignition lock barrel over to see if it affects Smartlock and is successful will change all the locks for the EA II's - hell, that is the one I have two keys for :)

Cheers
RD

Well, I just proved that you can transfer a non Smartlock Tibb lock ignition barrel into a Smartlock car. I just changed over my EAII Tibb lock ignition into my Smartlock equipped ED wagon and my old key starts her right up!

Now all I have to do is change the door and hatch locks and I am set. Add another thing to my list :)

Cheers
