Hey everyone,
I was driving along a nice scenic road near my house a few days ago on my way to work. All was good, it was pissing down rain and my mont' had great traction as per usual. Then, out of nowhere a i start to slide, as if on ice and i had no idea why... I now know that a truck had dumped an absolute d#%kload of canola oil all over a 7k stretch of road! I happened to be the lucky first car through... how i didn't die i don't know... (Thank god for drift experience i guess  )
Anyway, i haven't been able to wash my car, i guess i work too hard... It's absolutely covered in oil and to be totally honest it smells like it's been deep fried... kinda looks like it too cos it's gotten really hot and i think it's baked on... so... i'm amazingly p****d off and want to hunt down that F#$*ing truckie cos he's screwed my paint! 
Anyway, that aside... any ideas on how to get rid of the oil without damaging my paint? It's kinda a sludge right now and i don't really want to wash it in case it makes it worse... but at the same time i can't stand it being dirty... 
Any help would be MUCH appreciated Cheers in advance

Hose it off!!! As much as u can. Then, i'd go about it with some good carwash, then some paint cleaner, then clay it, polish it, and wax it. Should come up nicely if the oil hasnt trashed the clear coat (prolly hasnt but be careful getting it off. Try on a not seen area and go slow

Meguires Soft Wash car wash. that s**t's amazing, i dropped a bottle at work out the back on this filthy floor, came back an hour later to wipe it up, and you should of seen the difference, it was like polished new floor underneath!
Maybe some cans of degreaser first and th4e hose? |

haha ... sorry to laugh it is a funny story but glad you came out ok, just smelly like chips probably isn't what you want... yeah I reckon you'll have oil up in ever crevice for a while and it might just take a few washes to get rid of it.
Maybe sitting a sprinkler on the lawn and drive the car over it for a few minutes will help wash it out... but remember it is oil, water doesn't get rid of it very easily.

Thanks for the quick replys fellas.
I had thought of the degreaser before but i thought it could screw up the paint. I've got some soft wash at home, it's what i usually use so i'll give it a try. I might go to the local paint supplies place and get some good paint cleaner. Thanks heaps, fingers crossed it hasn't screwed up my clear coat.

how did the whole car get the oil on it? shouldnt it just be the area around the wheels? cheers

Maybe one of the citrus based detergents? Water will do nothing.

high pressure water cleaner but instead of using detergent use a cleaner such as martin suggests... lots of ideas

Depends what canola it is.
If it's straight canola it should come off fairly easily with a not-to-harsh degreaser. By the sounds of it, if its gone sludgy, its a blend. You'll need hot (most of our canola blends have a pretty low melting point, about 40degrees should do it) water to get it off, as well as degreaser to get rid of any residue. You don't happen to know whos truck it was do you? It probably wasnt the truckies fault either. Some dumb s**t operator (not me) may have overfilled a compartment and it ran down the drain pipes as the truck drove.

Try hot water and dishwashing liquid, one thats not too harsh. It gets dishes clean can't see why it wouldn't clean the grease off your paint work. Afterwards give the car a good polish, should be good as new again.

I wish it was just around my wheels, it's quite literally all over my car... i even have it on my roof...
the worst bit was when i realised that there was no water in my windscreen washer bottle... it was unfortunately after i'd already put my wipers on... I'll try warm water with the soft wash on it and i'm not going near degreaser... i now remember what it did to my mates SR20 rocker cover. Water just beads... even high pressure... it's like my car is newly waxed!... with grey sludge... 
There was enough oil dropped that they closed the highway for a day after the spill and the speeds have been dropped to 40 now (from 100) with caution signs everywhere with lights... there were 9 seperate accidents on the 7k's of road too after i went through. nobody knows who the truck company was or the driver so... yeah... Good point bob, no rust for the mont! Cheers fellas[/quote]

HOT SOAPY WATER would do the trick. find something that makes soapy water that doesnt wreck ur paint. mix it with lots of warm/hot soapy water and rinse it off.........usually conola oil doesnt bake on. it either turns into jelly or it is a liquid when hot...unless the outside of ur car caught fire?

This sounds very familiar! Down here, when I'm on the skidpan they use OLD canola oil. There must've been an extra bad abtch on there one time and the only way i could get rid of it was prepwashing, cleaning, polishing and waxing. Takes a bit of time and effort, but it will come off!
And yes - it does go everywhere!
