As you can see I have a nasty piece of my bonnet duco missing and it is quite large. Can someone tell me if the piece that appears to be missing is just some sort of gloss / protectant that can just be re-applied in some way?

looks to me like the enamel stuff they add as aftermarket protectant, should be able to buff the area and reapply new protector over it, i have the same sorta thing on my skirting

Looks like you're gonna need a full respray. Perhaps this is a good chance to change to Heratige Green!

Yeah ive seen that b4 it looks like the clear coats coming off or something... Its best to deal with that quickly to, cause as soon as the heat gets to it over time, it will get much worse!

Umm that happened to my mates ghia exact same thing and he had to take it to a panel beater and got them to repspray the area.

Also you wont need a full respray unless other areas of the car display similar problems, the only thing they will do is just completely respray the bonnet area. Not much need to do the whole car.

But yeah its definately the clear coat coming off thou.

Can the clear coat just be reapplied to that spot with no other painting at all?

Nope dont think so, the whole area needs to be redone as it may come up in another spot on tha same area. even if there was some thing you could yourself it would only be a bandaid fix and it would look out of place. :?

Go to a few panel beaters and see what they can come up with. :)

What you got my whole bonnet had - Its the clear coat of paint that goes over the colour base paint. In my case it was due to sun fade. You need to respray that whole panel to get a tip top job done....... In my case I just got my whole car resprayed (it was due for one anyway - the suns a killer and so is the salt in the air!)

Looks like fun Vic.

I had the same thing happen when they installed the sunroof, they pulled off the masking tape and it ripped off some of the clear coat. Pretty much I have to get the whole roof resprayed before the paint starts going, more clear coat rips off and rust starts to form underneath.

Very common problem on the door moulds too, paint has come off there too on mine but I did a quick fix with touch up paint until it one day gets resprayed.

On my red car, the bonnet was all stone chipped and I got a quote to get it done, one was $320 just for the bonnet, or as most will do, have to probably paint the two front 1/4 panel and maybe the front bar aswell so it all matches - that quote was just over $500.

And I agree with others - time to go the full respray and get the envious heritage green!!!!!

LOL.

Too much money involved in spraying the whole car Heritage Green! :o

Also, the keys were "placed" there gently just for indicating size of paint chip! ( a***! ) :D
