Ok.. Got my XR8 rims and now I can see those old crappy brake calipers :\ I'd like to paint them with some silver hi-temp enamel. Anything I should take into consideration before I do this?

yeah, that you'll need heaps of cans of brake cleaner to get them clean enough so the paint sticks - also use the proper paint (VHT brand is awsome). and don't paint rubbers and things that shouldn't be painted!

forget the brake cleaner, buy a bottle of mag wheel cleaner costs a heap less than 10 cans of brake cleaner and works 10 times better.
as said above go for the VHT pressure pack either go for brake caliper paint or even the hi-temp engine enamel both work fantastic

When I did mine, I just left them on the car. Took the wheel off and masked surrounding area.
Cleaned the f**k out of them with degreaser and a wire brush. Then just painted away with normal spray paint...none of that VHT stuff...no need. Been over a year and mine still look like the day I painted them... |

I painted all 4 of my calipers on the car (with the wheel off). Did a wheel at a time. I didn't mask as I was worried about over-spray. Instead, I sprayed small amounts from the can into a large (clean) ice-cream container and painted it on the calipers with a small brush. Took my time and put on 3 or 4 coats. Ended up with no brush marks and no over-spray. Looked excellent. Took a few hours total.
I bought the best spray I could that was specifically designed to paint brakes. |

A quick little tip for you.
Take a wheel off. Grab a plastic shopping bag and place it over the whole area, rotors and brakes etc. and tie it with the handle part of the bag. Tear a little opening big enough to expose the brake calipers. Tape or mask the plastic bag opening so that it is behind the calipers so that nothing else is exposed. Spray paint till your heart is content. When dry, tear away bag - no mess - no fuss Cheers |

yer i got it done but they got scratched so i might have to do a touch up job. might take the idea of .. and spray some into a tub and paint them on.
its well worth doing this if you have rims that show the callipers. i just used masking tape and a plastic shopping bag. check out this tutorial: http://www.aufalcon.com.au/Tech/techbrake.htm
