Hey guys, I have new rims on my XT and you can now very easily see my brake calipers, which makes sort of makes the whole package look a little worse.
Sure the rims look great, until you see the ugly calipers behind them. Now I haven't fiddled with my brakes before, and quite honestly I'm not really interested in doing so, I don't plan to risk my and other peoples lives because I want red calipers. So I was wondering where I could possibly get them painted in WA? Or just some general suggestions to places that would do it would be great. Thanks! |

If you don't feel confident taking the calipers off, mask the disk and everything around and just paint them on the car.
It works, doesn't look as good as taking them off and doing them properly though. You should really learn how to change pads, and bleed brakes yourself though, its not hard.

Guys every car Ive done in the past Ive done them on the car. Give them a good spray with Brakleen then use a quality ENGINE enamel (FORD BLUE my favorite) Hmm best be doing the XR6 now

If you don't want to remove the caliper, the easiest way to do them, is to cover the disc and then proceed to spray the caliper.
Easiest way is to get a shopping bag, and cover almost all of the disc, and then use some masking tape to sover the disc near the caliper and away you go. |

Another vote for leaving them on the car.
First degrease, then sand stubborn areas, degrease again, wipe with wax & grease remover, mask up and start spraying!!! |

did mine. Go get VHT CALIPER PAINT!!!!!! only....., one can will do.
jack the car up and take the take the wheel off. get in there and scrub the caliper like crazy with a wire brush to get the brake dust off it. give it a quick wipe with a rag. tape the area off (newspaper works, i didn't use tape, just a rag in my hand, tin in the other) , save for the metal parts of the caliper and what not. thats the bit the takes the most time but it doesn't need to be perfect. Spray like crazy!! get plently on there evenly and your done. dont worry about any on the rotor's, it'll burn off as soon as you drive it. dont forget some matt black for the hubs if they need it. nothing worse than rusty hubs. if not, go to a tyre mob or brake and clutch, they'll get it done no probs

another thing I found that helped was wrapping the discs in foil, it formed better than paper or plastic when masking. U then just use masking tape on the areas u want cut well.

i done mine today while i was swapping rotors, just black so they didnt look rusty ect. i think ill colour them when the slotted rotors go on...
while i had the caliper off i put a bag over the disk and under the caliper suport bars (as it was black i didnt worry about overspray) just sprayed a few good coats on it. came out good but i need bigger wheels to show it off lol i rekon white or red would look good |

Thanks for all the replies guys.
After reading this all, I went and got some degreaser and hi temp 'caliper paint' to do it all. Unfortunately I have exams coming up and must study for them a bit, But I will post before and after photo's when I do paint them. Thanks a lot for all your replies guys, been very helpful. |
