I'm considering sending my AU LTD to the panel shop while I wait for the delivery of my new engine to get the engine bay painted. It seems like a good opportunity - a couple of weeks to spare and the engine bay is almost empty. If I don't do it now then I'll probably never do it.
The engine bay currently matches the car colour - white, except its very flat and dirty. I just want to freshen up the engine bay so it looks cleaner. I'm wondering whether different paints or processes are used (or could be used) to ensure the new paint stays in good condition in its harsh environment and would be easy to clean in future. What sort of prices would you expect to pay for an engine bay paint job (when the engine is already out) ? And does anyone know a good panel shop in SW Sydney that I should send the car to? Cheers

Hey Waggin - its Richie here.
the ED project has ended with a dead convertor, so its gone to a good home to be resurrected as a commodore killer. ( stroked + C4 + 9") I went looking for a project car so I could install the V8 supercar engine I have & make it streetable. Because liscensing is an issue with Windsors in later B series - I settled on AUII. Didnt like the sedans or XRs ( couldnt find reasonably priced good condition ones) but managed to find a AUII Fairlane Auto V8 in Adelaide with no rust, no dents, almost perfect leather inside & only 139000km on clock. Had it delivered to perth last week. Now has WA rego - so I can make a start. Gear box to be 6 speed TCI 6R80E (with paddle shift & programmable ECU). Engine management is Motec M800. Havent decided on diff (bloody thing has IRS). I noticed your LTD project & was interested in what you are doing. First off were the Brembos - which ones / what size rims etc to fit and also what rears. My engine man wont do the build unless brakes are in! I also need a bonnet with BA bulge else I have trouble with the intake which covers the 8 thottle bodies. Found a place in Sydney that has pressed all steel AU bonnets with the bulge (SSV) - but no good for Fairlane. Could use fibreglass but prefer steel. Would be intersted if you have ideas to share. Richie

Hey guys, definately get the Engine bay freshened up while you have the chance, great beaters and painters are JJ performance smash in Bargo NSW, Jason is the man to talk to and will help you out. Id say around the $500 mark to lay down a fresh coat to the bay, if its the winter white id recommend asking for a clear coat to help preserve it a bit as the winter white is just a base colour with no clear.
