Was reading the above tech article, and was considering doing similar, but wanted to know how it lasts 6 months, a year down the track. I spoke to a car paint salesperson and they said nothing is suitable for the soft rubber, and will just all fade away after a couple of months in the sun. As this is a relatively large job, i want to know if it is a worthwhile mod! Cheers.

I did this to my EF. It's not that big of a job, the hardest part is masking everything up.
I sanded everything back smooth and sprayed it with some bumper bar gloss black paint which is supposedly flexible. Lasted a few months before the gloss started to fade a little from sitting out in the sun. Hasn't cracked or nothing, has just lost it's shine so now it appears matte black but it actually looks okay. If i want to make it shiny all i do is get out a little tyre shine, spray it on and rub it in. Even if it does fade, i still reckon it looks a 100 times better than the pitted s**t it was before

i did mine. its not particularly hard,like the other guy said hardest bit is taping everything up. mine has faded a little bit,but i did it bout a year ago, was well worth it though. even if u have to paint it again in 6 months its worth it

I think i used Septone Bumper bar spray in black from Supercheap, was supposed to be gloss black but kept ending up drying in a satin finish but i didnt mind. The spray is sort of absorbed into the rubber on the first coat or 2 so you have to spray a few coats and it's best to remove as much of the pitting in the rubber as you can. The bumper bar spray is "flexible" (well at least it says on the can) so i thought it would be best to use this kind of spray on rubber. I have also heard that the K&H brand Bumper bar spray is good too, you can get that from Repco.

No, didn't use any primer well not that i remember using.. I just sanded it back, cleaned it with some wax and grease remover than started spraying it all black. Didn't use any clear coat as i didnt have any at the time, but i guess it wouldn't hurt to use some

hey i used the holts dupli color paint in ebony black. turned out ok,but i should have sanded it back more. i think i used primer,but cant remember,but im going to redo it again soon when i get the time. let us know how it goes if u do it anytime soon
