does anyone know where the document on painting exterior window plastic is? My NL has some sun damage around the rear side windows.

My trim looks like it is decomposing around the rear quarters - the rubber is just rotting. And these are the second set - I had Ford replace them under warranty when the car was 50k old - now 230k old. Needless to say they wouldn't do it now. I wonder how much new ones are? Needs more than a repaint - probably some sort of sanding, bogging, then painting. |

Yeah - I don't know what kind of rubber they used, but it's obviously different to the rest because this is a pretty common deterioration. Sucks.

Yeah tell me about it. Especially when you have a car in immaculate nic, but the rubbers surrounding the windows are rotting away! ..Makes it look like s**t! 
Maybe best of getting them replaced, then coated in something that is impervious to sun damage? If there is such a thing? lol Another thing, is the plastic on the doors (infront of the centre pillar when doors are closed) starting to fade aswell? |

Nah - I'm OK there - the curvy parts are the only bit on mine that are rotting away.

replacement windows, trade price, are $80 each brand new - and VERY hard to remove!! trust me!

Replacement windows? Do you mean the WHOLE window assembly, including the gasket? Or just the window gasket itself? And which window are you talking about? Ie. the rear one? Also, why is it so hard to remove? Cheers mate. |

Cheers mate. the rear 1/4 window. they are all one section - i.e. the rubber and everything is one big section - you can't separate them at all. they are sicaflexed in - so VERY hard & time consuming to try & cut out - razor blades over a few hours!

Instead of trying to cut away the gasket & pull out the glass, would it help to smash the glass and just pull out the frame? Or bad idea. I mean, seeing that the whole thing is gonna be replaced anyway, there's not much point in being gentle with it, lol! Also, who would be the best person to get to do that job? Panelbeater or something? ..And how much do you think that it would cost? Mine needs doing bad

Now that I think about it, my rear window rubber surround is rotting away just like the curvy bits round teh back door quarter windows. Pain in the date

yeah smashing the window then ripping it out is the easiest way - but you've just gotta stop the glass from going everywhere!
 mine were smashed the other week, hence why i know! the new one looks good though

At least it was only the windows, could've been so much worse. I'm personally worried about mine, it's gone from secluded driveway in a quiet suburb, to a main(ish) road until the garage is emptied. I've already picked up a new small dent

But - like DM said - could have been worse And I take it you got new rear quarter surrounds at the same time? Or are they a one piece - window and trim - item? |
