Hi all, I have a problem with the wiring on my BA Mk II Trayback Ute. When I hit the brakes, the front parkers come on. Also, when my headlights are on, the cruise control does not work. I am aware that the brakes and cruise control are connected somehow. I have also done some research which initially indicated that I could have had the wrong bulbs in the rear lights, or the filaments could have been touching which would cause a short. However, both of these have been checked and are working fine. The tailights are newly installed NARVA units which are supposedly self earthing. Could this be the issue. I also have two wires left on the passenger side which are not connected. They are a brown and a black (earth). i am definitely not a sparky and the manual is quite confusing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would remove both globes and test.
You'll need 1x brake and 1 x parker. sounds like the parker is getting ground from the brake circuit. I'd remove all wires and start again.

Yeah, I just tried taking out both bulbs and checking the front parkers - they're still coming on when the brake pedal is depressed! So I don't think its the bulbs ...

sounds like the wiring could be crossed up somewhere at the back. a short between brake/park. some vehicles use the rear park light as an added brake light but without diode protection you will get similar troubles. check your new lights. self earthing sounds like it may need some attention to.

Hi all, thanks for your replies. I finally figured it out (with the help of my mechanic friend who popped over for a visit). What had happened was one of the wires going to the brake / tail light had broken off inside the rubber boot of the light. It was not visible until you shone a light across it. We had to pull the bulb holder part to pieces, fabricate a new connector (as the old one fell apart when we tried to disassemble it) and then put it back together. Once that was fixed, we then started blowing fuses. This ended up being a faulty bulb (although it did look fine). Everything seems to be working now. Thanks again for your assistance.
