hey all,

I want to buy some springs soon to stop my ghia feeling like im on a boat. Also want to drop it for handling and appearence.

As is I dont have money for new rims and not sure if I will do so in the future as I want a clean factory look.

Im currently running 15 EL Ghia rims and thinking of supers all round or super fronts and ultra rears.

So, if you can please help me with pics how your ride sits that would help me heaps.

This is my EBII with superlows all round, but the rears have a further 3/4 of a coil removed, to make it sit more level. Standard EBII Fairmont rims (15")

Ummm, yes... the ride.
Well I'm a slacker when it comes to dumping cars. I just fitted the springs, didn't replace struts or shocks, so it rides quite soft and comfy. It only 'handles' because of the lower centre of gravity. Otherwise it's plush comfy and will bottom out over big road undulations. Also scrapes on speedhumps, but then again I believe all cars should scrape on speedhumps. Otherwise they're just too high!
Also, all was good until I took the extra 3/4 coil out of the rear. Now it does have a bit of tailshaft vibe due to decreased uni joint angle. But I can live with it.
Where's some piccies of your ride? Make sure you get some before/after shots. It's great to look back on the original and see the improvement.

Thats whiteline lows. But mine actually does handle, very very well in fact for a falcon, and is still relatively comfy over bumps and s**t.

and also, dont cut springs, silly idea. and buy struts, it doesnt cost much to do things right

So you would have little or no suspension travel on the rear with stock shocks. In otherwords the bump stops will be getting a hammering.

Hi nicco,
Perhaps I should clarify my interpretation of "handling". My background consists of 17 years servicing and repairing some of the finest European sports cars (Ferrari, Porsche, Maserati etc.) so in my humblest of opinions I would consider our Falcons to be at the mid-lower end of the handling scale, regardless of what we all do to them. Don't take offence, it's just a case of higher-end cars having better engineering and costing a whole lot more money. So yes, my car does handle for a Falcon. Not cutting springs? A lot better than buying another set of rears because they don't match the fronts, don't you think? Trust me, they aren't going to be overstressed or fatigued as a result, especially not in their application in my car - slow cruising!
Regarding struts replacement, you are technically quite right. It doesn't cost much to do things correctly. I just kept in mind how much my car cost when I bought it and how much less I would get for it if I sold it now. I just didn't want to over-capitalise on my car with expenses that I considered unjustifed (not unnecessary, but unjustified in my car's application) :wink: .
Just wanted to clear that up.

Bumpstops = "suspension overdraft" :D

yeah ill start taking some pics and ill post up once i've done something.

i was really thinking of giving the stock el ghia wheels a good buff and getting a white wall stripe on the tyres and have it sitting on supers so far.....what u think?

Hi mate, I found this link - are these the rims that you have?
If yes, I would say stick with the std rims, no whiteline on tyres (silver of the rims will match the grill and 'white' headlights; whitewall line will be too much), no mudflaps and supers all round.
You'll be lookin smooth in no time.

also to touch on the cut springs debate - i think there is a lot of people on here that hear the words 'cut springs' and automatically assume you have cut 3 or 4 coils off. :roll:

Thanks for raising the point prydey. I only took three quarters (3/4) of the coil off. Not much, just a smidge to even out the front to rear side view.
