Hey guys,

just want to know if it is possible to join half a plastic bumper and half a fibre glass bumper so that it looks like 1 piece when sprayed?

i think somebody said once that it can crack the paint because the plastic is flexible and the fibre glass isnt?
But i also heard that bumpers get sprayed with a flexible coat of paint so that doesnt happen?

i just want to know if its possible before i go around looking for who can do it and for how much

Yes it is can be done. I did it with my TS50/EF Fairmont bar. You need to bond them together, I use Locktite polyurethane adhesive, similar to Sikaflex but better. Once this is done you can then start glassing the back of the bar. When you fill the front use a flexible filler and take your time. I will post some pics of the work tonight.

ok
but did you join 2 plastic bumpers with fibre glass or was your TS50 bar made using fibre glass?

i want to use the top half of an EL XR plastic bumper and the bottom half i want to join is made from fibre glass
will there be any problems doing that?
i had asked 1 place about 2 months ago and they first said they wouldnt touch it and if they did they would charge about $2000 for joining and spraying

TS50Bar is Fiberglass and Fairmont bar is Plastic, Bonded together with Locktite and then Fiberglassed in the back. If you were in Sydney I would be happy to help but if you need advice just ask.

The reason it took me so long to paint was that I ran it for a while on the car to see if any cracking would appear. Everything is perfect, no cracks no stress fractures. You need to take time when bonding the fiberglass and the plastic together. I used a whire wheel in a drill and roughed the inside of the plastic bar before I fiberglassed. What type of bar ar eyou looking at?

Can anyone tell me if $2000 is a lot to pay to join a bumper and spray it?
