Anyone know of a thread covering this? I don't like my once red stripes turning pink and I believe new ones are no longer available.

The rear quarter, and top of door strips are rubber covered, so a rubber or bumper paint works the best, you just have to make sure you sand off ALL the oxidisation where the rubber has broken down, otherwise it will come back through in a short time.

About half way down the page shows mine being done: {DESCRIPTION}

As for the side strips, I'm not sure about the red ones, but the black ones polish up real well with a plastic polish, or even a buffing compound that breaks down as you go, using a foam pad gives the best results.

I used to have a gun metal grey XR8 and same problem, so I had em painted in body colour and got some GT stripes (thin over thick) applied in a metallic silver and came up awesome.... I never took any photos of the old girl unfortunately before I sold it.

Hi guys,

Bit of a thread dig, thought I'd add to an existing thread instead of starting a new one though.

I did my side strips today with Turtle Wax Color Cure coloured polish (the red one, obviously), it came up a treat.

Before - mmm, Barbie pink

Masked with 3M painters tape (the low-tack stuff)

First couple of coats - next to nothing happens, the strips are pretty oxidised and just suck the polish in

Third and fourth coats, starting to look good

Fifth coat and it's all done

(Yeah yeah, I know, I'll do the indicator surround another day, didn't have time to pull it apart today :oops: )

After:

:D

Cheers
Matt

(PS, wear gloves or the polish gets all over your hands and you'll end up looking like you've murdered someone recently :lol: )
