Pre AU? What exactly does that entitle????

ok lets go to the extreme here...

Pre - meaning before...... thats easy

AU - Presumably the model of ford falcon/fairmont

Pre AU = any ford falcon/fairmont model previous to the AU model

my delema (heres where i play dumb for the sake of an argument, and yes i am married and it does work :? )

my previous car was a ford, it was a falcon too, it was a 1963 XK... so why doesnt my 1963 XK ROH steelies with ford embossed hubcap fit my ef fairmont when "most" people say you need "PRE AU" rims to fit onto it?? (obviously the XK was a 4 stud pattern but just wait.....)

HERE IS THE UNDERLYING QUESTION

What models of ford falcon/fairmont rims are compatible with EF & EL :?:
Are all E series rims compatible :?:
AND NOT IM NOT TALKING ABOUT USING HUB ADAPTORS (or spacers for that matter) :?:

thankyou for you time and opinions....

PRE-AU is XA-EL I think.

Most members on here have late X Series, E Series, AU and BA's, so when we say PRE-AU, we're generally talking about wheels designed for EA-EL and noting the offset change on the AU's. Most rims that were designed for X series look horrible on modern cars (12 slotters on E-Series should be illegal!!)

thanx, and i agree about the 12 slotters, great for what they are intended for...
my main ask is incase i come across - for example - a set of simmons wheels previously used on say a ea falcon (providing not too wide etc) generally would it be worth a look as supply of rims seem limited..

so i guess yes i can look beyond previously owned ef & el rims back to older model and hopefully there would be some tastefl, decent sized rims out there

i was at a mag wheel sale last weekend where there were only 2 pre AU sets ($100 and $700 full set) but for after au the choice was quite nemerous which led me to ponder on the "Pre AU " terminology

so once again thanx for your reply
hope it helps others

Yep your right the stud pattens the same from XR-EL's & the ute & P/vans XK-XP with the 5 stud patten but from the 1976 later XB's on the centre's were larger.
But I think I've seen more holdens fitted with the aftermart 12 slotters than fords.
