Would hot exhaust gas onto the inside of my rear bar melt it???
I was playing with my zorst and now the gas blows pretty much straight into the rear bar and it gets VERY hot, too hot to touch!
It looks and feels like just plastic, could I damage it if it gets too hot ??

Need some info, I think the answer is yes but just wanna hear it :P

its not in direct contact, but where i cut it off the gasses are now blowing directly at the bar.
I tried sticking up some heat shield pad that I had and that just got singed and fell off...
Tried tin foil to direct the heat out the back and that got too hot and fell off.... :(

The bar doesnt seem to have changed shape as yet, but when its hot I can almost mould it with my hands, and thats only after a 15-20 min easy cruise, I gotta drive to granville tomorow which is about 45 mins in traffic, so if theres a chance im going to stuff my bar then I wanna know so I can skip work tomorow :(

If nothing else I need some idea of how to bend the pipe down ...
It looks bigger then 2.5" (Maybe 3" ??) but id always been under the impression it was a 2.5" zorst.

But how can I bend this pipe into a bodgy downpipe??

where exactly did you cut it?

Either way just cut a V out of the bottom of the pipe and bend it down Like this:

-_-_-_/\_-_| then bend the end down:

-_-_-_//\
\/ and weld where the V has closed up.

i cut just infront of the mounting thing behind the back right wheel.
to get rid of that godawful cannon tip and the rear muffler.

sounds very nice, but the cut (altho angled down) is still blowing superheated gasses into my bar...
a 10 min drive just then and i cant touch the bar, its soft like a mousepad now...
needless to say it wont make it to granville tomorow in 1 piece... :(

Its all good anyways, took it to the exhaust place at kirrawee, its getting a dump pipe welded on so the exhaust will go out the bottom away from the bar :)

Ah ya beat me to it, I was going to say go to A & P / Kirrawee mufflers and get them to weld on a new piece/tip.

Pete there is pretty good, I've had a few exhausts from him and he replaced my cat back system recently under warrenty from redback even though I didn't have the receipt :)

I went to sutherland exhaust...
I dont know why I keep bothering, Its the same guy ive gone to for years and i take all my mates there too...

But his work can be kinda dodgy, and his prices are worse then a reaming by a big black guy named bubba!

He quoted me $200+ today to fit a stainless steel twin tip ...
An its costing me $45 for him to bend 6 inches of 2.5" pipe and weld it on... thats about 20 mins work and hes had my car since fkn 8am and i still dont have it back !@#!@

Actually come to think of it, the first time i went to get a zorst, the only reason I went to sutherland exhaust was cause his price was $50 cheaper for cash then Kirrawee mufflers...

Wasnt 100% happy with his work, and he gave me the wrong headers (which I still use today).
But hes honest, goes out of his way to do s**t for me.

Also the guy @ kirrawee mufflers was giving me the same story ive heard dozens of times at dozens of exhaust places - that he owns a race car that is the same as mine (shocker!) nd has tried all types of exhausts and HIS ONE IS THE BEST ...

$200 is a bit rich!
Years back the guy at kirrawee charged me $40 for a large chrome tip and welded it on too!
He does have an EL, but it being a race car is news to me!
I got my advance headers there which he reckoned were good and in some magazine comparo they showed the most gains against all the other competitors (that was 5 years ago though). His sales pitch aside, they were $350 fitted so I got them anyway. I still have them on there now and they're certainly not hurting performance ...or maybe they are and I'd have 180rwkw with a better set :P

lol...
I asked the guy at sutherland exhaust specifically for Pacemaker 4499's and he bolted on a set of 4477's ... that being after making me wait a week cause the original set sent to him got 'stolen from the van' ...

They cost me $650 installed...
HPC Coated (got a little rust spot and paint coming off now :()
