Hey Guys,

I'm wanting to respray the tickford strip as it has faded a fair bit.. Does anyone know what the best colour to use would be? What red is closest to the original?? Also, is there anyway of removing the strip and painting it individually or would it be better to do it on the car? Also thinking about respraying the plastic around the windows, any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Will

Hi Will
The XR molds are not painted the red is the colour of the mold itself.
The molds are made of a silcone based polly urethane.
when you remove them from the car you will need double sided tape to re apply them & not just any double sided tape I found 3M tape was the only tape to stick well.
Before thinking about painting them get your self a heat gun & heat up your molds.
When heat is applied to coloured plastics the heat brings the colour back to the service.
Dont get them too hot wave the heat gun back & forth.
Dave.

Once you remove them, buy some tape and paint and spend time painting them you'd be better off buying new ones. Find a car parts supplier that stock parts for All Crash Parts, they have them and they're reasonably priced.

Nah, don't paint them, you'll regret it. AFAIK you won't get aftermarket items, only genuine - prop yourself up when you hear the price from ford.
That heat idea sounds interesting.
Have a read of exterior-modifications-f15/red-stripe-on-xr6-t73330.html
and the links in it.

Contrary to this comment, as I said in my last comment, they are available after market, you need to find a car parts place that supply item from a company called "All Crash Parts"

Yep, calm down - I've spoken to them a while ago and have been told EF/EL XR are not available, however, might've been a bum steer.
Contact them at http://www.allcrashparts.com.au/ and post your findings.
