can someone please point me to the rule for this 2" bigger?

i can't find ANY reference to 'rim' size on the vic roads website.
it only states it must remain 15mm within the original total diametre (rim + tyre)

My insurance was more concerned with width rather than diameter. They said 8" wide is the max.

Thats what I heard too it wasnt the 2" of extra diameter NRMA and AAMI both just said it couldnt be bigger than 2" in width --- like the length of bentles C**k (sorry I added that here)

John your probably correct in saying that it's overall diameter and width that is the legal concern rather than rim diameter itself. Physically i can't really see any reason why rim diameter could make a difference to anything other than the load rating of a tire, and aslong as this complies than there really shouldn't be a problem.

I will be contacting an engineer soon enough anyways as i'll be getting 18's put on my EA, so i suppose he'll let me know if it is necesary or whether this 2 inch diameter rule is just myth pedalled by uneducated cops and insurance companies...

Well my stockies were 6.5" wide, so an extra 2" would mean 8.5". But they said 8" max. Funny. I guess you couldn't insure an EL GT with them.

In vic, you're allowed to go 2" up in size from the biggest wheel available as fitment for your cars SERIES, as long as overall rolling diameter isn't increased by, I think it's 15mm?
It's how 'series' is defined that is the tricky thing.
Way I read it, is that EA-ED is a series, allowing fitment of 19's, thank you EBGT (only thing you're good for), and EF-EL also allowed 19's (thanks FBT and ELGT).
Width is 25mm wider then largest fitment I believe.
So close enough to 1 inch.
In Vic that is. I dunno what all you other backwards states allow.

So hello 19 x 9 rims :P

Just ring tour local motor registry but the info is easier I found to get the legalities from insurance places

tahts what i'm saying.
i've looked on the website.. and the only doco i could find that related to wheel sizing said NOTHING about the actual rim diametre.
i've heard the whole 2" rule hundreds of time, but i'm starting to think thats always come from 'their mate' and no one actually knows.

Yeah I just looked through again too.
Well, there goes my theory :P
It appears the ONLY thing Vicroads take into consideration is you must be 15mm within total rolling diameter, and the 25mm width thing still stands.
Oh, and you can't go THINNER then thinnest fitment for your series.
So no frontrunners on the street :P

i'd be inclined to beleive that a lot of the restrictions raised by people are those of insurance companies.

some are tougher then others and the rules get mixed up.
