hrmm not really sure if I want to know whats going on under my guards now.
Might need to look at investing in one of those anti-rust thingies whenever you buy a new car now.

My brother bought his car from some small car yard he should've got it inspected by RAC properly before buying it but he did it the other way round, and turns out theres about $7,000 worth of rust damage to the chassis. Exhaust was rusted so bad 2 months ago it broke in half. He has an 97 EF GLI btw :)

I always thought EL's were the nicer looking of the 2 :), could be a 96 will ask him when I see him next, anyhow it doesn't matter what car it is, it just has a bad rust problem :P

Would there be a structural problem with rust there, or is the rust spreading the concern?

nah, it looks like surface rust only, if it was left for years and years it would become very bad.

I'd say that car has been near lots of mositure, my 91 LTD isn't rust proofed and it has no rust under the guards or anything
