an hour should be fine...
and u mean between primer and colour or base silver and colour
the latter u could repaint after 15-20 mins, same with clears
watchout some paints will fry up/blister if recoated after a couple of hours, enamels especially

hey all im currently in the midst of this 'mod'. ive already stripped the rocker cover of all the paint that i could get, there are still some places left with paint so ive started to sand it all down to get rid of these spots.

my question is, what stages did everyone go through of sanding their cover down? ie: what grades of sandpaper used (wet/dry?) is a primer necessary? ill be painting with just engine enamel (ford dark blue is the colour im using)

any help would be much appreciated!!

to fix the drip, u will need to block it out of the paint, get a hard sanding block and some good brand 600 w&d, use lots of water. need to feather out the edges so u cant feel any lips etc
is the paint u are using the anodised look type? did u need to use a silver basecoat underneath it?
this could be a bit harder to try and repair...

once u have the stripped it, just use some good quality 320 wet and dry, use lots of water too. the finer u get the finish the better the finished product will look.once u have done the 320 u could give it a quick 600w&d if u wanted.
if theres any stripper left in gaps of ridges, give it a scrub with a toothbrush and soapy water, if u prime it u will see anything u missed, will show up as shiny paint once the primer is dry, these areas need more rubbing back.

primer...read the instructions on the engine enamel can, some paint needs it some it doesn't. u could just grab some etch primer from supercheap and give it a couple of light coats, then when its dry, give it a scuff with grey scothbrite to help the paint stick...

good luck and dont forget to post some pics of the finished products to inspire others.....

A painted rocker cover makes an engine bay look 11ty million times better. Well worth the time and effort
