hmm i tried the anodised look today but it turned out absolutely s**t house so i've rubbed it all back and will start again tomorrow..what'd i do wrong? applied 3 coats of base coat 10 mins between each coat, then left that for 20 mins and put the colour coat on, did 4 coats of that and left it to dry but it was all textured and flat. nothing like the previous ones on here.
as for the rubber gasket either Bursons or Cheapa Auto Spares if you have em down there, mine cost me 28 bucks. Supercheap dont carry them neither do autobarn |

By flat, I'm guessing you mean not very glossy and textured you are meaning that the finish isn't entirely smooth and looks like orange peel?
For your final colour coat did you give it a fairly heavy coat? Not 100% sure, but i reckon that could be one of the problems with being 'flat' in appearance. With most things i have sprayed, i have found if the final colour coat is fairly thick and sprayed over evenly, you get a consistent gloss all over. Kind of hard to explain, but I have sprayed things where the final coat i sprayed on was a little uneven, and some parts would appear glossy and other areas duller so i had to basically give it one more heavy coat making sure that the paint was wet all over to ensure the finish would turn out decent. To fix the textured finish and get it looking smoother, you could do a quick wet sand with very fine paper (~1000 grit) between coats leading up to the final coat, but be sure to give each coat enough time to become dry enough to lightly sand. This breaks down the orange peel affect and makes it less noticeable. If you are clear coating it, you could even wet sand the final clear coat with something very fine like 2000 grit and buff out the scratches with a decent cutting compound then hit it with some finer polishing compounds to get the gloss back. |

Thanks mate, i think a bit more prep is in order as well..could it be the different products? i noticed your using duplicolor, i'm using VHT, after putting the silver base coat down it was very rough to the touch. Gonna have another go tomorrow if it still turns out crap i'll get the f**k powder coated lol

normally u would put a couple of light coats on then a wet coat to smooth things out. does the vht recommend clear, most candys need clear coat to finish
if the silver was rough it sounds like it went on too dry. |

It does recommend for added protection to use a clear, I did a few light coats then a wet coat, probably just wasn't wet enough though, cheers mate
