I had my cover powdercoated black. Has copped a pizzling with the leaks i had etc'.......and still shiny as the day i put it on......after a wipe down

Dunno if you can get a pearl in powdercoat......maybe possible.?????? Definately would last longer.

Cheers

Hey Adam,

I did this about 2 days ago and i think it came up looking mint as!

i used Duplicolor Metal cast ground coat as the prime ( has metalic in it to make the blue really "pop")
and the i used Duplicolor metal cast color paint

Used wax and grease remover first ( couple $)
Then sanded back
then Primed and after a few coats of primer i sanded back with 600grit sand paper (light sand)
Then the color went on and after a few coats of color and i was satisfied i used more 600grit paper and a sanding block and really carefully sanded back the Ford logo and the 4.0i OHC and it came up pretty nice

Pics Below

- W&D sandpaper of varying grits e.g. 320, 600.
- Wax and grease remover (methylated spirits does a good enough job of this for me)
- If you are going anodized, best to use the silver base/ground coat as the primer which is what they advise
- Either VHT or Duplicolor, both have anodized paints with matching silver base coats and both do a great job, as what can be seen here in this thread.
- Also grab a sanding block to rub back the fins and lettering, i think i used 280 grit to break the paint down to bare metal again, then 320, 600, and 800 to get the metal real smooth and then clear-coated the entire cover with Duplicolor clear enamel.

EDIT: pretty much what A-Bone said up top. By the way, the rocker cover and belt cover came out great on your XH, nice job 8-)

Also Adam, the best results are gonna be with about 90% prep work, the cleaner and smoother the better

well its an AU rocker cover, so i'm guessing i won't need to sand it much, just use w&g remover.
otherwise where did you get the duplicolor paint? who stocks it? going to get supplies now :D
