I'd be guessing that it'd be State dependent aswell buddy, so talk to your local transport authorities!

I think the legislation is state based but so long as any modification etc isnt going to make thecar unsafe to drive or a danger on the road such as massive blower covers that block out half ya windscreen like u might see at the nats :P

At a guess, putting a scoop on the bonnet.

Ok! Where to start. Apparently it used to be that you had to be able to roll a ball of diametre of 86?mm over the scoop. So basically, as long as it was less than 43mm high or something. But i think the rules over here in wa are now that there are no moving parts, that it is lower than 60mm, and that when sitting in the seat you need to be able to see teh road 11 metres in front of the car.

i fit a lot of scoops to bonnets, including hornet type ones and the pro scoop style. What i have found that a lot of people that i deal with who have street driven drag cars are going away from forward facing scoops and changing to the rear opening induction scoops. The reason being that any opening at the front of the car is just going to attract attention,so by using the rear induction scoops they don't stand out as much.I have fitted the induction scoops to bonnets that are upto 5 inches high and the customers are going to drive them on the street.

I think the only way you'll get a definitive answer to this one is to contact your local Motor registry. If you go in, they should be able to give you a photocopy of the relevant regs.
Cheers, Bob

cheers for the replys guys...
as for what im trying to do, it is purely experimental.
i have aquired an xw gt scoop which i am going to trial fit onto my xf. i have major clearence issues due to the fact im running a 4bbl holley with a spacer plate to allow for nitrous. the scoop will be offset, and have a hole cut for a 6inch aircleaner. anyone who wants to do a photochop feel welcome :)

will get in touch with the rta..

oppinions?

-mitch
