Hi all,
Just wanted to give a heads up... I've just started welding up what little rust is in my EA body and discovered something interesting.. I had two rust holes in the metal just under the passenger taillight. Turns out that inside of those exact spots is two big chunks of bog like stuff that ford seems to have stuffed in corners (about 1.5 inches around.) some small water ran behind the light and down into that bog and stayed between the bog and the metal till it rusted though. Also under the bumper was a rust hole as well where the majority of the water exited. I've just welded the visible holes up with some steel I cut from the boot lid when I grafted in the ED garnish. (so technically it's still ford steel ) will do the stuff that isn't visible when I graft an EF bumper on it later on down the track. Even if you don't have rust in those areas, its worth making sure it isn't working its way out from the inside.. you get get to the inside of that rears though a 2 inch hole in the steel in the boot... put a screwdriver in and pop out the bog chunks and perhaps though in some rust kill. rgds Frank |
