Well you dont say anything about what type of car you have, so im going to take a stab in the dark and say an XD-XF as these had seperate locks to door handles. If so, and you have remote locking, then sure, it might not be a bad idea. If you have an EA - EL though, I think the rear EF or EL door handles fit over the lock barrel, or you could take the trim panel off inside, remove the lock barrel in the door, and then fit the rear handles from there. The fords arent too hard to get into with a screwdriver in the lock, so it might be an idea. There are a few around here that have done both, i.e. XF or EL etc. So in short, yes, its possible and plausible

Its like shaving the door handles, ie making them flat with the side of the car, which is basically removing and filling hole with metal, then repainting. looks much smoother

on an EL, is there much differecne in size between back and front handels, coz i wouldnt mind getting rid of the drivers side lock as its never used, but hte back handles look smaller

I've looked into this from the regulation side of things as I'm going to do it to my 67 mustang.
You can shave the locks and have central locking. You can shave the handles but must have an alternative opening device. A recessed buttion that's flushed with the door is fine. |

I'd consider doing this to mine, but ever since I got the keypad wet when washing the car it hasn't worked!

Basically you can do it to any car.
You need to get yourself a Door Popper Kit frmo the states or aus if u can find them and wire it up to your alarm or a seperate remote with 4 buttons or 2 if u have a 2 door to open the doors seperate if u want them to pop open. im about to give it a go on my car and also gfs mirage so see how it goes. and yes if it does fail to work/eg. battery dead etc or short, you can get a backup device to open it. door poppers kits are approx $190AU a set of 2 usually, but not sure if they come with 45lb poppers which u might need, then its play around and custom fit it all to get it all going will post pix up in the next month or 2 to show what ive done.. |
