What needs to be done to get the wipers on an AU2 Falcon silent? We jumped in a silver service fairlane cab saturday night and it was raining, and i noticed it's wipers were silent.
Driving home 20 minutes later, mine were really loud in comparison. Is it just the rubber? If so, is there a specific brand/type I should get? |

is it a squeel when it goes on the windows or is it a mechanical noise from the motor moving the arm?

If it's just the rubber.... new wiper blades ought to fix it...

When you find out let me know.
I believe the main cause is the joins in the wiper arm wear and allow too much movement, the wiper arm then filps over to far on each wipe.

someone asked me the other day if they should put some grease between there wiper blade and window to stop the squeel.
tried so hard to not laugh, just imaging this lady driving along with grease smeared all over her window! i'd try new wiper blades for a start - i mean there only cost a couple of bucks. maybe spend a bit extra and get some decent ones, teflon or something. and try franks suggestion. get some silicon wiper blades and polish up your glass. It instantly made a difference.

The old boy bought some new wiper blades from ford and believe it or not they actually work. But as you guessed it they cost a fair bit, about 9 bucks a pair from memory, but they are dead silent.

I pay about $11 per head when I replace mine. I can't be stuffed replacing just the blades. It's easier to replace the entire head.
I saw a few months back that you can get teflon coated wiper blades now. I'd imagine they'd be nice and silky smooth on the glass. |

However the main source of noise on mine is at the turn around of each stroke. IMO the wiper arm tilts far too much leaving the blade almost on its side.

Rain X means you use the wipers less, but when you do use them, there noisy as all f**k s**t
Trust me! I replaced the heads on mine, which improved it dramatically. Also silicone blades seem to stay pretty noise free.

Some people don't seem to realise that the heads have spring loaded arms in them which lose their spring loading after a while and no fancy blades will overcome this. That's why I just buy a new set of heads with blades every 12 months before winter starts. It only costs about $20 extra to replace heads, and over 12 months that's only 38 cents a week for that extra convenience. |

Spring loaded? My eb, which i assume is the same, doesnt. It has several pivots which seem spring loaded when the blade is in, but no springs. The only spring is in the arm itself, to hold it on the window
