I think you might of missunderstood me a little bit, when doing a candy you have to spray continous pass over the whole side then back again, for instence when painting normally you would put a coat on the front guard then move onto the front door and so on but with a candy because you overlap the front egde of the door when painting the front guard it will create a darker patch and you will end up with all your edges having about 10 coats compared to the rest of the cars 5.

I hope all that made sense, also you dont need to undercoat the car if it does not need it, the original paint will work an undercoat.

Ah ok I get you now.

I was hoping to leave most of the original paint and just cut the car back where it needed it (ie most of it bar a ding in the rear quarter and a few shopping trolly hits in the door)
How do they get away doign inside the doors and the like when doing candy paint jobs ? I'm planning on doing my boot, engine bay and inside the doors black for simplicity, I don't want to have to remove half my interior...

Doing inside of the doors are the easy part because it is very hard to notice imperfections in the paint, you would just take all the doors off paint inside them then bolt them back on then do the outside of the car.

heres a few pics of when we did my car

I would also recomend taking the time to do the inside of the doors, my previous car was painted in a chameleon colour but I didnt do inside the doors because they were already black and it did make it look a bit odd and if you want to sell it down the track it will make it alot easier.

Quick update on progress seeing as someone was asking yesterday.

It's coming along, but slowly because I've had alot of other stuff on and as a result I look like a s**t driving around in a car missing parts and with multicoloured panels and an assortment of primer

At the moment I'm fixing up all the little dings in the body (95% of which were already there when I bought the car)

Image

Not looking pretty!
I'm still tossing up whether to fit the BA bulge, but that'd hinder progress quite a bit and is going to be hard to get looking perfect so at the moment I may go without it... I do really want it, but I want it painted even more and things are dragging out

I've found someone to paint it and that should start in about months time :D

The original purple photochop I did has the ELGT scoop, which I also have, but I was going to sell it...
I could do with the extra cooling though that putting a small hole in my bonnet would provide :)

That can be decided later though - my more immediate concerns are making up the rear wheel arch bits to come off the back of the skirts and somehow extending the rear bar down lower. That's not going to be fun... :?

That's a very sexy looking kit. I personally like it with the " EL GT " hood ornament, altho most wouldn't.

Seeing threads like this makes me wanna pull the kit of my EB and repair it, but then again, with the effort it takes to fit it back on, i start to shudder.

My rear bar isn't sitting on great atm, as one of the little plastic clips on the body is stuffed, but i gotta pull the bar off soon to fit a tung and ball to my tow bar, to tow my Torana to the panel beaters, get it straight and rust free again. :D

Keep up the good work on the kit man, you will be very happy when it's done! It's an inspiration to the rest of us on FordMods!

Cheers

ToranaGuy

I dunno how much the skirts alone are as I got the whole kit together. As I said earlier though, they won't go straight on and you have to d**k aroudn alot cutting and shutting them to fit. You'd probably be looking at around $500 for the skirts and the labour mod them
