when you do, tell me how, and then i'll do it, dont forget to blow steam out the sides when you open it :) but back to the real topic at hand! he looked up her skirt and saw the moon! are the skirts on that beautiful car of yours? which skirts did you put on it? the XR ones or the BA ones?

How you'd do it ? Probably some sort of worm drive type arrangement would be easiest - altho it'd need to prodtrude down into the guard or maybe it'd be better mounted on the side of the strut tower next to the extractors to give it enough length... Even if it only opened the bonnet a few inches and you had to do the rest by hand it'd still be cool.

I may hook up a solenoid so you press and hold a button to release the bonnet (rather than lifting the lever) but I don't think I'll do the motorised bonnet any time soon. I've got more important aspects of the car to focus on at the moment.

I can easy do steam out the bonnet scoop if you want - just hook up the line from the wiper squirters to spray on the extractors and instant steam! :P

As for the skirts - read for first line of my first post in this thread :P
They're BA GT skirts, they were fitted but they're off now, sitting at the painters place in primer ready for paint when the rest of the car goes in.

hey thats a good idea! and it keep it all nice and cool too :) 2 birds with one stone! how nice would that look! and it would give the tssss noise!!! dunno if i like the worm drive idea to lift the bonnet... be a bit slow, phenomatic thingos would do it :) maybe replace the struts on the sides with two small phenomatc pump things? that'd work a treat!

Don't forget to rub back with a block as the right rear side has bad levels and it will look like crap if you don't.

My painter spent hours getting the body work right. The bonnet scoop needs to be low on it as I cut the centre brace on mine but the heat that comes out keeps your coffee warm.

In the end it all looks great.

Darren

Rear side of what Darren ?

I was looking at the bonnet and where I'm going to mount the scoop and I think I'll move it back up the bonnet a little more (towards the windscreen) so it gives more clearance from that centre brace. Chopping the centre out of that will weaken the bonnet alot, not to mention be highly illegal - although the po-leese probably wouldn't know once I put the sound deadening mat back on...

Anyone know what the genuine EL GT's did in terms of their bonnet scoops and where they sat in relation to this reinforcing ?

Go back to the start of the thread, I posted where I got it and the phone number of the guys there.

OK, another quick update - only a week to go until the paint goes on :D

After susing out some other colours I ended up going with the phantom, or atleast as close as the paint shop could make to the genuine ford colour. It seems to colour shift alot just on the card the painter sprayed up for me so I can't wait to see it on the car

These pics are all of the same card - just at different angles the flash it shows it up as different colours. It's all the same purple to look at (and it is distinctly purple rather than the blue it shows up as under the flash) so the colour shift in the bottom right is just how the pearl is coming out on camera.

Image

The closest to how it really looks is the bottom left of the picture, to the left of my thumbnail. The car will be painted black first and then 2 light layers of the colour over the top.

:D

Also got the holes cut for the bonnet scoop but even with the scoop as far up the bonnet as I could go I still have the cross brace bit right underneath. I've left them there, and once they're sprayed black and covered in some fine mesh it shouldn't show through.

Image

The holes are right above the extractors and throttle body/rocker cover, so I'll have to make some sort of water run off duct otherwise I'll have steam coming up out of the bonnet every time it rains
(and a cracked head if pours :P )

I posted an update last week but it disappeared when we lost all those post recently...

Anyway, she's almost done :D

Here's a pics of of the shell in it's final stages

Insides painted

Masking up before the final outside spray

Yesterday arvo, colour on but before the clear coat

Image

This morning - clear coat on and ready to go.

Image

Unmasking it took alot longer than I thought!! I only got the head and tail lights back in this morning, but I should get the rest of it back together after work today and be able to drive it home (refit mirrors, all the rubbers, door handles etc)
The kit won't be ready for another week or so but as soon as it's all done I'll post up some more pics
