Should I keep the stripe down the side of my car or not?
I was all set to rip it off when I first got the car but never seemed to get round to it and in the meantime it's grown on me a bit... what to do? {DESCRIPTION} |

just beware if you peel something like that off you can see colour diffrences due to fading and s**t like that, i also think that depends on how long it has been there aswell.
Might be worth just peeling a little bit back and seeing if the is any discolouration.

rip off!! rip off!! rip off!! rip off!! rip off!! rip off!! rip off!! rip off!! rip off!!
just my lil thought... i ripped off!! all the side stripps off my white ef fairmont.. looks 100% better! no hard to clean dirt stains.. mmm nice clean smooth look to the car now.. jus need to have quite a lot of spare time scrubbing the glue off the door once you have peeled the strip away... i used a stanly knife blade and metho spirits to soften up the glua and to remove the glue residue.. |

get rid off them, will make it look more modern. Don't use a stanley knife blade though.. if you slip you won't forgive yourself...

i'm not sure but i think people are talking about 2 different things here. some sound like they are talking about the white body moulds which are in part stuck on with double sided tape. where others were talking about (and i believe this thread is about) the silver/grey tape/stripe just above the door handle line.
correct me if im wrong.

yeah....... good question leroy... i thought he meant the side rubber strips colour coded to the same colour as the car...
i think the technical name for the ones u are suggesting is "pin stripes"? is that it leroy? i spose either way the car stil looks better without them!! |

I dont mind the look of those silver ones on 98fairmonts one though. each to their own i guess.

I used hot water to get my pin stripes off my old NA Fairlane and it worked like a charm - water is neutral and won't harm your paint, keeping mine on my ride.
Just rub a cloth soaked in hot water and then peel off slowly after a few minutes. Use some cut and polish lightly to remove any glue and belnd the surface with the rest of the paint.

Thanks for your thoughts guys, yeah I meant the pinstripes above the door handles. I peeled away a tiny bit near the headlights and no sign of paint fade (helps being white!) So I think I'm going to carefully prise them away, no Stanleys though, I don't trust myself!
Fordfreak: I think I will keep the moulds on the doors for now, but you've given me something to think about anyway... eventually I'm going to do the TS50 kit, and the chrome trims will have to make way PS: 98fairmont is a 'she' |
