Tuff one, could be the a*** end of the series I or the beginning of the series II. However, non-VCT it may be a series I.

Where are you looking at the car, is it online? Do you have a picture of it? Is it only advertised as an AU instead of AUI/AUII/AUIII etc...?

I am interested to find out what series it is. What series do you want I or II?

yeh, i'm hoping to see it tomorrow. it is online, however only advertised as an AU. Neglected to ask the owner which series it was.

I'm not too concerned, just that the Series 2/3 XR looks nicer IMHO :) either way i reckon this sounds like a good car for the money, don't want to let too many details go cos i dont' want someone stealing it from me!!!

oooo actually, it has the dual spoiler, was that a series 2+ accessory?

Duel wing means series I dude. It was series II onwards that had the single straight squarer wing.

II and III are different..., not by much tho..., but i think from memory the 220 KW XR8 in series II's that were made at the end of the series II run were made with the series III front bar, i'll try find pics of the diffrences

(II and III, are pretty much the same, but just the series III came with 2 added bits at the bottom of the Series II bar)

Pic 1 is an AUI, Pic 2 is an AUII. They AUI bar is more rounded and is designed around the forte front bar. The AUII and AUIII bars are the same as each other. The pods (2 added bits) you are talking about on the AUII/III are part of the optional tickford bodykit. I think possibly the AUIII came with grey striping where as the AUII had nothing, and the AUI had red striping.

Heres pics of the 3 bars.

Spot on Glenn,

The photo's of the AUII/III is what my car used to look like before going for the C2R kit. Ah, memories.

I still wonder what series aphexer is looking at? I'm betting series I.

hmmm, series 2 & 3 definately look best... however this one i am looking at is confirmed by the owner to be a series 1, but it does have the tickford kit fitted so i'll hope the front looks a little better than the blue one in the pic.
the black one in the first pic i posted looks good as it has the tickford kit on it.

i'm having a look at the car tomorrow morning, so hopefully all goes well! the car appears to be very well priced, about 3k under regular market prices!

YUK!
the AU2/3 front ends are definantly more attractive, scott i would definantly be looking at a series 2 for the better front end, better radio cd, better brakes, plus i thought most of them got irs, where most series 1 were live axle. It will not be much of an upgrade from what you have now.

They do look much better with the bodykit. You won't be dissapointed. AU's are heaps under-rated i reckon.

give GlennXR6T a beer!
The AU2/3 front bar is the same with the exception of the optional pods. Only AU1 was different.

Just got back from taking it for a drive... very disappointed.

the manual is definately great, and improves acceleration and general fun all round, however the condition of this particular one was pretty poor. apparantly the owner had the gearbox, diff, clutch and rear axle replaced under warranty by ford. it still f**k clunks into first and 1st - 2nd! u put the clutch in and it clunks heavily when moving slowly...

i'm not buying no lemon thanks! he's had problems before, had parts replaced and its still a lemon! ugh. otherwise, it was a nice looking car, black, full bodykit and 17"s... completely stock with the factory sunroof looked lovely... but it looked like trouble. not to mention its lived the last 5 years near the beach! rust spots in the boot, also had been nudged in the a** and cracked the rear skirt...

i think i'll wait until my probation is finished at my new job (starting on tuesday) and see how i go in my new sales role :) if i do well might have to look for a nice BA ;)

For $17,500 you should pick up a nice AUII XR6 for not much more. Even an AUI XR8.
