HID = High Intensity Discharge

They give off a brighter whiter light and are not street legal as they don't meet the ADR's..........Pity:(

They will make the lights look white with the tiniest hint of blue as compared to the nearly yellow they are normally, looks pretty good. I'm waiting for one of mine to blow to justify upgrading :D

Madmax: "They give off a brighter whiter light and are not street legal as they don't meet the ADR's..........Pity:( "

Sorry Madmax this info is wrong.

Visit any reputable car accessory, spar parts or electrical outlet and you can buy, a range of HID Xenon Kits to retrofit to your car.

Have fun,

I have them ... and they s**t all over halogen.
Mind you beam pattern control is a bit iffy ... but i have pointed them down heaps. Will be fitting Mazda6 projectors into the AU headlight soon and mounted my HIDs behind that for a proper "flat beam"

Hi Mechan1k

That is the most intelligent comment I have yet heard in regards to HID kits.
You will probably be the only AU in AU with a proper set of HID projector headlights.
I did it on my BA, it is the ONLY way to go.

That's a poor argument. As over here (eastern states) you can buy radar detectors and NOS kits and <insert other fun bit here>. Doesn't make them legal to use.

Yeah I was thinking that, probably gonna try and replace the globes in the cornering lamps with even low beam halogen globes, I've got a spare set of headlights lying around to make up the housing from. Would be a challenge but not impossible

Got pics of yours????
I'd love to see them.

I think i might have to chance to H1-style HID globes to fit them behind the projector lense (focal point will be screwed up with the H4-style globe ... H4 probably won't fit anyway behind the projector.

I know i can get replacement H1 HId globes and still plug into my existing wiring harness of the HID system.

I would go Narva Artic Blue lights. I've got them on my XR6 much better than normal.

What is their Advantage? The ‘Arctic Blue’ globes produce a much brighter and whiter light than that of standard halogen globes. The high colour temperature of 4000° (Kelvin) is closer to natural daylight providing safer night time driving. They also have a distinctive icy blue/white appearance that is similar to Xenon Gas Discharge (XGD) systems found in a number of prestige vehicles.

Are they better than High Wattage Globes? Although high wattage globes produce a greater volume of light, the brilliance of light produced by ‘Arctic Blue’ is far superior and reflects better off road markings and signage.

How is it achieved? The colour temperature of a globe (measured in degrees Kelvin) indicates how yellow or blue its’ light is. By raising the colour temperature of a standard bulb from 3200°K to 4000°K the light appearance becomes a whiter icy blue.

Timmeh ... you have the perfect headlights to put HID retrofit kit in .... you already have the projector lens for it ... for the perfect beam pattern.

data_mine,

Boy o Boy o Boy……As I mentioned in my earlier post PLEASE READ the HID thread, before commenting.
All the fact and other things you may want to know about HID, Xenon, Blue Lights etc. is and will be revealed during that thread.
So, start reading, and comment later. That is If you see the need for commenting.

Mechan1k,

If you are going to retrofit Projectors, then you will have to abide by the fitting installed by the manufacturer in the projector in question.
.
Anyhow, if you don’t like the fitting, say if the projectors are housing a H1 and you want to have, H4s you need to get a conversion plate.

The focal point is already decided by the manufacturers of the projectors.
It is fine tuned to the reflector, the bulb, the lens and the distance between the lens and the housing.
So you don’t need to do or change anything there. Just keep it standard.
All (by all I mean the few days you need to spend, planning and thinking before you start doing anything to the headlight units etc…) you have to do is: remove the headlight assy , remove the glass (Be very, very careful), if need be remove the exsecting reflector, cut a round hole (large enough to fit the projector, well at least the portion of it that fits in the housing behind the glass) then insert the Xenon bulb connect to the discharge unit, test run.
If it works and the light pattern is perfect then glue back the glass and re-assemble the headlight unit.

I may even reveal a trick or two about retrofitting and how to get a perfect beam pattern etc……

By the way, What type of reflector do you have? Are they Parabolic or Ellipsoidal?
What type of bulb fitting in the projectors?
Can you send me a picture?

I would rather have this post and rest of this communication in the HID thread so everyone else can follow it. Is OK with you? Mu Pic in the HID thread. See you there.

Have fun,
mavs19

Just because you can buy them in a shop doesn't make them legal to fit to a street car. You can legally buy lots of things from spare parts stores that are just for show or off road use. The onus comes down to the purchaser to use them as the manufacturer has detailed.
As the Narva site says
Quote:
CAUTION: For off-road use only. The H.I.D Xenon Conversion Kits are not ADR approved and therefore are not street legal.

Look I'd love to change mine as I think the stock lights are s**t, so if anyone can point me in the direction of a HID set that is ADR approved, that would be great. In the meantime I prefer to keep my car legal.
